hey,
short intro:im 31 years old and try to regrow some hair in the temples area.until now i was able to stop the hairloss using finasteride 1mg for 2 years. However, there wasnt any hair growing back, which was ok for me,since i didnt expect anything else..
now im tryin to gain some hair back tho combining minoxidil with a dermaroller-
doing this for 6 weeks now and the results are rather great..already gained abt. an inch of normal, pigmented hair back.
i have lots of fluffy,non-pigmented hair, too in the edge-region and was wondering,if there is any possibility of it growing back to normal, pigmented hair at some point?
anyone with experience on that much appreciated.

whats a dermaroller?
its a microneedling device you roll on your skin leading to tiny holes for a better absoprtion of the minoxidil.
i dont know if im allowed to post links so i suggest you google it for further information.

I use the 1.0mm dermroller. I think it makes a huge difference in absorption.

I also have the white fuzzy's in previously blank areas, so we will see, but I think so, as my hair line is starting to fill in.

Isn't 1.0 mm too much?
I'm using 0.5mm and it stings a bit so I can imagine what is with 1mm.

They sell up a 3.0mm!!

With the 1.0 hardly any pain, just a slight discomfort. But maybe I dont have a sensitive scalp.

I was just given a dermaroller. Before I had never heard of it but after reading about it, it seems promising. I plan on using it at might with my Revivogen. I apply minoxidil in the mornings. Hopefully the holes in the scalp will still be open in the morning to allow the minoxidil to penetrate better as well.

How often are you guys using it? I read that if you use medium pressure that you should only do about 5 days a week.

I read somewhere before that the holes from Dermaroller will be closed in an hour after used. So it will be better to use before using minoxidil.

This is really interesting!! I am in the same situation as you were before, maintaining hair but now dedicated on regrowth. Any possibility that you can post any before/after pics of your temple areas?

Do you think it would be better to use the roller with minoxidil or Revivogen? I think twice a day would be too excessive.

I use it twice day before minoxidil and spironolactone. Its really not a big deal. I have pushed so hard that blood come out of the spots. Wipe the dried blood away and you cant see any presence of derm roller holes.

Just start slow and see how your scalp responds.

I have been using 0.5mm ZGTS titanium roller with minoxidil for a while. This is probably the most economical roller available. I always apply minoxidil on my scalp before rolling over gently. I've stopped using the roller recently as pimples(bumps/infections) started popping out on my scalp. I probably didn't sterilize the roller properly? Btw, dermarolling does sting a bit initially but you'll get used to it after a while. Personally I think 1mm is a bit too 'invasive' for home treatment. Be safe and stick with 0.5mm!

Double14, have you seen any improvement since starting with the ZTGS 0.5mm roller regarding regrowth? For how long have you used it?

I've been on and off dermaroller for quite sometime (>15 months) and mainly use it on my thinning crown. Unfortunately I don't keep a photo journal about my progress and all I could say is it stimulates the scalp and stabilizes hair loss. As for regrowth, I can see very fine hair growing on my temple and the crown seems to thicken a bit. I was thinking of getting a 0.4/0.3mm roller for my temple as 0.5mm hurts quite a bit. Also, maybe it's worth cutting my hair real short and do an unbias photo journal about my progress using dermaroller on a regular basis.

P.S: I also take propecia as part of my daily regime

Interesting Double14 and congrats to the progress!!

So, would you say that some of the regrowth could be associated with the dermaroller?

I have read 100´s of posts on derma rollers, and most people say 0.5-1mm needles is the way to go. However Nanogen, recommends their 0,3mm roller for the more sensitive temple areas, and 0.5mm for the crown.

My mother used to work at Q-med, the maker of Restylane (chemical engineer), and she told me that they used different length of needles to inject the substance, and also gave me a lesson in the human skin:) She told me that if you penetrate the upper layer only, no substance will get in to the blood stream, and the absorbtion of the topical substance will be much more effective. However, if the needles goes to deep, it´s starts to get dangerous....
She couldn´t remember the different depth of the needles they used, but that made me think that the 0,3 mm would be a great way to play it safe, and still hopefully get some more absorbtion.

Do you ever see any blood while using the 0,5mm roller, and how do you describe the difference between using it on the crown and on the temples?

I think you will be fine with the 0.5mm roller. It seems to be the one I see recommended.

highroller 19,

If you want me to describe the difference, pain is minimal when you use it on the crown and its gives you that 'invigorating' feeling. Kinda like using a menthol-based shampoo on your head and you can see some flushing, possibly due to improved circulation. However, its entirely different on the temple. It's rather painful and I've experienced immediate flushing and redness after rolling. Also, its hard to distinguish facial skin/scalp. I've haven't experience any bleeding and I will definitely get a .3mm roller for temple.

P.S: make sure you disinfect the roller each time you use, 70% alcohol is recommended. Air dry it before storage. You don't want to get bumps n zits on you head!!!

He's pretty much right on.

How do you disinfect the roller? Pour directly on it or put in some sort of a bowl and soak it?
