minoxidil and frontal thinning

My dermatologist just told me I should go on Minoxidil; however I was reading the box for the instructions and it says not to use it if you are experiencing frontal thinning and only to use it if you have thinning on the vertex. Can you use it for frontal thinning? My hair is fine everywhere but in the front, and that was my intention on using it..will it still work, or should I not even bother if it says not to use it for frontal thinning?

You are a prime candidate for Propecia, not Minoxidil. Diffuse thinners do quite well on Propecia + Nizoral alone. You will likely be happy with your results if you ride out any sheds and give Propecia at least 1 year to work. Save the minoxidil for later, unless you are completely unhappy with how your hair looks right now. minoxidil will work up front for a large % of people.

I already have a prescription for Propecia, and my derm is actually giving me close to a year's supply of minoxidil for free..so I figured I'd take it, but I just wanted to make sure there wouldn't be any adverse effects (or a waste of my time) if the box specifically states that my situation probably isn't the best use of minoxidil/Rogaine.

gourmetstylewellness.com,

can you give some arguments or studies to back up your claim about propecia being good for diffuse thinners?? I am one myself and would like to know...

minoxidil works at the front. I've been on it 12 months for early frontal receeding/thinning and I feel like shouting to the World that - it works. Am very happy with the results but on the other hand it is only good for 5 years or so - anywhere on the scalp.

I have diffuse thinning all over the top and used minoxidil for 2 years without success. I don't know if it slowed down my balding but my hair continued to get worse while using it. I have recently started Propecia and am now having a break from minoxidil.
