Minoxidil Hair Shedding And Why You Should've Worry

If you’ve ever tried minoxidil to regrow your scalp hair, then you’ve probably experienced the minoxidil shed. But if you haven’t tried minoxidil, you’re likely to be incredibly shocked and disgusted at the sight of handfuls of hair days to weeks after starting minoxidil for the first time. You may even be tempted to immediately stop using it.

Don’t. Keep with it.
Shedding is a normal part of the hair growth cycle. Minoxidil simply accelerates the process. The hairs that were close to shedding prior to using minoxidill are particularly susceptible to shedding in large amounts. Pair this with dormant follicles suddenly being reinvigorated and shedding their miniaturized hairs, and you can see why many people experience a devastating amount of shed hairs at one time.

What’s more, the shedding never stops.
On the contrary, it is an ongoing and fairly consistent pattern for as long as you are using minoxidil: hairs grow in, they shed, and come they back. Rinse and repeat.

Then there is what I like to call the “Big One,” which is where you are cruising with really good growth gains for months and then suddenly without warning, BAM! All your hair just falls out over a ridiculously short period of time.

I’m talking days, not weeks.
It makes you wonder if it’s really worth it.

I’d like to challenge you to stick through it.

Understand that it’s normal and after several “big ones” of your own, you can begin to predict when the next one is coming and take necessary precautions like purchasing a concealing hair fiber like Toppik to add the appearance of hair density while waiting for the shed phase to pass. Or get your favorite hat from out of the closet.

Minoxidil works differently for everyone. But the shedding seems to be the only constant for every guy or girl who uses it. Take comfort in knowing many many other people share in your pain.

I’m one of the unlucky ones for whom minoxidil caused a never ending shed. It does fluctuate, but I never lose any less than 100-150 hairs in a day. The minute I brush through my hair, numerous hairs rain down. This has been the case since I started in June 2015, and now In Jan 2019, it continues. What’s more is that I get cyclical loss and regrowth. It’s awful. I lose cms off my hairline and tons of density within a few months, it grows back a bit, repeat. I’ve been through it so many times now that I can map the growth and loss periods out and anticipate them. Particularly awful when you have long hair. Sadly, it’s the only thing to ever give me some regrowth. So I’m stuck until a miracle arrives.

How long have you been taking oral minoxidil now Georgie? i have been on 10mg for a little more than four months, other than the start of treatment i haven't noticed shedding, but no real results ether. Bit disappointed really. I have some wrinkles under my eyes though, don't know if that's the oral minoxidil or just natural aging that was going to happen anyway, other than that no sides.

I’ve been using it since 2015. I got a terrible shed 3-4 weeks into using it which got a little better after another 3-4 weeks but never stopped. I shed constantly.

I know it sounds like misery loves company, but I feel better knowing that other guys have had similar experiences as me. Until a better solution arrives, I suppose we'll have to stay with the shed train.

Have you noticed increase in wrinkles or bad skin in general? i take care of my face but i have theses deep wrinkles under my eyes, don't know if minoxidil is the cause or just naturally aging. I will be using a derma pen to get rid of them regardless but i was just wondering.

I’m sorry to hear that. I know what you mean. It’s good to know that you aren’t just the only one who got screwed over. Everyone used to
tell me that “it wasn’t possible” or “it must be something else”. It’s 1000% the minoxidil.
For some of us it just completely messes up the hair cycle.

I was thinking the same thing. I am finally seeing regrowth following my huge shed in December. It’s never ending.
I know exactly what you mean. My oral minoxidil dose became ineffective and the growth that I was supposed to get last August-November didn’t happen. So I’ve skipped a cycle and it looks like I won’t get any kind of growth, only rapid loss until August again :( I’ll show you a photo from August last year to yesterday. 6 months worth of loss. It’s a nightmare. My hairline is naturally low. Now it’s really sparse and like 3cm receded. In the next 6 months I absolutely dread to know what I will end up like. I lose easily 200+ hairs a day

If it’s any consolation I don’t know any dudes who even notice thinning hair on a girl tbh

My wife has a similar situation as you. But she's medication averse, so she won't try minoxidil. I'd be lying if I said I didn't notice her thinning. But I think it's because I'm hyper-focused on hair loss in general and I live with the lady. I see her hair everyday.

That being said, I agree with SuperDPA's comment; I wouldn't notice anything out of the ordinary if my wife wasn't my wife. Men don't seem to think of women as having to deal with hair loss, which is unfortunate because both sexes suffer from it.

Nice vid dude. Since you make videos, you should ask for video requests. Have everybody compile information in your thread(make sure everybody agrees its correct) and make your video. Hopefully, grow a following for yourself and make a little money on the ads/views or however youtubers make money these days. Corner the market on hair loss haha
