Hi guys,

On Doctor Lee's website, he sells each of the named minoxidils. Which is most effective? I have heard that retin a irritates the skin.

Also, isn't propylene gly. required for the minoxidil to work its best?

Any info. would be great thanks!!

Many persons get allergic to propylene glycol (PEG) or find propylene-glycol -containing formulations too irritating. Dr. Lee offers the alternative formulation using glycerol. Since your body makes it, nobody is allergic to glycerol.

We used to make up our own if somebody got PEG-allergic. Now just refer them to Dr. Lee's product.

thank you very much for the reply. Suprised I only have one reply however!!

Do you think the propylene glycol enhances the effect of minoxidil or does it not play a part?

Regarding retin a, I have heard that this can irritate your scalp and should only be used once a day?

thank you again.

Yes. In fact, in the Rogaine clinical trials, the vehicle produced about half the effect. Later studies showed this was real and not just an artifact of the trial methodology.

The Rogaine vehicle contains water, ethyl alcohol, and propylene glycol. The first two are not known to stimulate hair growth. So by elimination the growth-stimulator is propylene glycol.

Dr Proctor, does that mean minoxidil formulations without PEG as a vehicle may not work as well as formulations with PEG?

If so, would that mean that a higher minoxidil concentration is required for the same results in a non-PEG as a PEG formulation? (ie a 10% minoxidil w/o PEG giving the same results as 5% minoxidil with PEG)
