i know you are supposed to apply twice a day for best results but if it is used once a day will u still see results just not in as short a period of time or will once a day applications render no result at all?

Depends on the person im guessing. I use it once a day at night bc i hate the way the stuff makes my hair look and feel. I have been getting great results with it and it cuts down on cost a lot due to not using as much. Im using the foam right now but will be switching over to the liquid once i run out. I think once a day is just slightly less effective than twice a day but it def. still works.

I agree with the second poster. I think once a day is probably only a little less effective than twice a day.

I have tried both ways over MANY years and never noticed a difference.

I now use 2ml once a night

i've always felt the rule of thumb is once a day for maintenance, twice for regrowth.

i'm using once before bed because it's way more practical, and am maintaining the hairline.

I was on twice a day application for 5.5 months, I had a bit of a regrowth but nothing significant. For the last 2-3 weeks, I've switched to once a day dose. I'm gonna stick with it for the foreseeable future.

I think that to begin with it's best to use twice daily, but after 8-12 months once a day will suffice.

I suggest that you NOT use the word "maintenance" in the same breath with minoxidil! :)

Why not?

minoxidil could maintain hair for about 2-3 years according to studies. finasteride can maintain for a longer time but it cant keep for ever. This site makes me feel like minoxidil is gamble to start using, maybe thats why I see my hair disappear and still dont start minoxidil.

In my opinion, minoxidil only "maintains" hair in a very superficial sense. I've been posting for years on all these hairloss sites about the so-called "offset of growth" effect from minoxidil, which implies that minoxidil doesn't actually inhibit the fundamental balding process, all it does is give you a bit more hair each step of the way than you WOULD have had, if you hadn't used it at all. Once you get to the peak of the initial growth spurt with topical minoxidil, your hair apparently begins to decline at the same rate as it did WITHOUT the minoxidil. You have a little more hair than you would have had without it, each step of the way, but you're still losing it at the same rate.

Do you understand what I'm saying?

I understand. This is why I drool so much on Proxiphen. It's a mystery for me that no one have licensed Dr. P's minoxidil/spironolactone combo and made cheap version of the combo, that would at least work better than normal minoxidil.

I have tried both ways and found that once a day is a little less effective but it still works pretty good.
