minoxidil only works temporarily?

I see all these posts about people on finasteride and minoxidil and how they have hit the 2 or 3 year mark and are experiency shedding...

a lot of responders seem to support the idea that the minoxidil is losing effectiveness and the shed is from the minoxidil maintained hairs....

if this is actually the case... why do people use minoxidil? It does not seem like it would be worth it in the long run to use minoxidil if you plan on being on these treatments for the remainder of your life...

I've wondered the same thing, actually... I've also noticed that many doctors (online) are telling people that your body develops a tolerance.
Though I suppose some hair now is better than none now and there's always that small chance you won't be one of the tolerance people ^^

I doubt there's any truth to the general idea that your body develops a "tolerance" to minoxidil. I think the correct explanation is simply that it doesn't really interfere with the fundamental balding brocess, so balding (male pattern baldness) continues at about the same rate, even if you're using topical minoxidil. The evidence for that theory is a monumental study by Dr. Vera Price in 1999 which showed that haircounts and hairweights appeared to decline over the course of 96 weeks at about the same rate in both topical minoxidil users and placebo users. All the minoxidil did was provide an extra "offset of growth" for the guys who used it, without actually interfering with the balding process.

hmm could it be because they're using minoxidil only? If they arent using DHT blockers like finasteride and their male pattern baldness is becoming more aggressive?

9 years on minoxidil and still Getting regrow (in my midtofrontal and temples). for 9 years i can tell you that have NEVER stopped using minoxidil. i might have miss a few application, when i go on vacation for a week i don't take it but i've constantly use it. Is the only regimen i have kept, i had to let go finasteride & dutasteride. i'm now back on finasteride but this time 0.5mg and see if it works cause i really need to block or decrease my DHT somehow.

9 years of minoxidil? Did you get any wrinkles from using minoxidil so long?
