Hi all,

First time poster here...

I had a quick question I was hoping someone maybe could answer based on their own experience or things they'd heard from others.

In particular, have any of you heard of people being successful regrowing hair with Minoxidil and then, after getting the desired results, discontinuing use of it and substituting in a supplement or shampoo that is intended to inhibit DHT from building up? If so, what were the results and what did they replace Minoxidil with?

Thanks!

Hi tavria23,

There has never been anyone who used Minoxidil with successful results who discontinued the medication and kept regrowth. Continuing the use of Minoxidil is necessary to keep regrowth or hair loss will start to come back if you discontinue using it since the hair follicles that have received the medication become dependent on it for hair regrowth. I myself once stopped Minoxidil for two months and I started to lose a lot of hair again. When I got back on it, I was fortunate enough to get back what I lost. It wasn't a fun experience.

There's no scientific evidence of any supplements that help with hereditary hair loss.

About shampoos, the only shampoos that have currently ever been scientifically proven to actually have an inhibiting effect on DHT when used topically are those that contain an ingredient called Ketoconazole. Ketoconazole is an anti-fungal medication with mild anti-androgenic properties and powerful anti-inflammatory properties. Here is a list of shampoos that are readily available that contain Ketoconazole:

+Hair Surge
+Lipogaine Big 3 Shampoo
+Nizoral
+Regenepure DR
+Revita

I recommend Regenepure DR since it's the only one out of all the others that I listed that's fit for daily use. I myself use Regenepure DR and have had good results.

Hope all goes well! :)

Hi guys, thanks!

What's the real benefit of using some other supplement (even the ones you mention) if you're already using Minoxidil?

Supplements aren't going to do anything to help hair loss, there's no scientific evidence that shows it can. Taking Biotin and Ubiquinol supplements might, just might help to improve the quality of your hair, but not help hair loss.

Use Saw palmetto it will help fight DHT . nizoral sucks it does nothing but thin your hair stay clear its JUNK!
You have to stay on Rogaine for life sorry . Buy the laser comb! DONT get a knock off . Out of ALL the ones out there the HAIRMAX is the ONLY one proven to grow hair.
Use both you will get your hair back man it worked for me .

There's no scientific evidence that Saw Palmetto helps to fight hair loss. It has been shown though that it can lower Prostate DHT, but no evidence that it can lower Scalp DHT. I'm stating this because it's important to know that the DHT that's found in the prostate that can cause BPH is different from the DHT that's found in the scalp that can cause male pattern baldness. There are different types of DHT.

Yes, Nizoral is very harsh. I don't use it anymore.

I actually do use the HairMax laser comb. I use the Professional 12 model. It does actually help, I've gotten plenty of benefit from it.

Yes-I like Regenepure DR and any of the Ketoconazole shampoos. I also started using low level laser treatment. I don't suggest proscar as I used to take it but it's a drug

no supplement will do anything for male pattern baldness, and there is no substitute for minoxidil. If you wish to maintain your results you have to continue it forever
