Hey can anyone tell me if I will be affected by missing about 4 days of Propecia. I couldn't make a doctors appointment in time to get my prescription refilled so I will have no pills until thursday or friday. That isnt enough time to get the DHT going and cause more loss is it? Ive been on it for about a year now.

It's said to remain in your system for six days. Just don't make a habit out of it and you'll be fine.

While Finasteride does *NOT* remain in your system very long (the half life is about 8hrs) it takes days for the 5ar levels to regenerate. Here is a graph from a study that Bryan made available on his website:

How many days does it take for the 5ar levels to regenerate?

Well, as you can see from the chart I posted above (compliments of Bryan), after a single 5mg - .5mg dose of Finasteride, DHT levels stayed suppressed for 7 or more days.

that is a great graph!!!

Seems like, unlike what I've heard, the different dosages DO make a significant difference in serum DHT level.

also it looks like finasteride at the dosages we take it only decreases DHT levels by 40-45%, so there is still plenty to go around if indeed it has some long term benefits.

Reassuring.

It should be noted though that a dose of .25mg of Finasteride can give the almost same result as a 1mg dose despite the apparent difference in DHT suppression.

Again, compliments of Bryan, you can click here to read the study complete with numbers:

A 1mg dose should reduce overall DHT levels by about 65%. Finasteride, at the recommended dosages, decreases the Type II 5ar enzyme by 85%. This should still provide ample DHT to go around for the rest of the body while still protecting the hair.
