My 3 months update

Hi people. As I promised, I am posting my monthly update. Since last posting, I haven't had a haircut so I can't quite compare where am I versus where I was a month ago. I shed about 10-20 hairs in the shower, and I shed less than 10 hairs all day long (visible) I run through my fingers on my hair at work in front of the keyboard, and no matter how many times I run through, no hair will fall out. (I think this means I at least stopped shedding. Before starting up my regimen, I was trying to gel my hair, and I would get 5 hairs every time I touch my hair. And it was just the frontal area. I was so scared) I had a blade 1 on my side and blade 4 on my top & front hair cut a month ago and haven't had a haircut since. I could definitely see my side hair grows faster than the front top. My front hair definitely looks flatter than anywhere else. I am happy with stopping the hair loss so far, and I hope to grow some volume on my hair on the front top. I don't know if finasteride has started working for me yet. I really don't know what stopped my hair loss, and don't know what to expect for the next 2 months. That's about it folks.

lightningcrashes,

I think you and I started on propecia about the same time. I started on first week of September 03 and my loss has lessened quite dramatically. I shower twice a day and always wet my hair during showering though only shampoo it once every other day. My loss per two days (which is the frequency I clean out the filter I put on the drain) went from an initial 65 to about 20 in the last 2 weeks.

I have been on and off minoxidil a bit. So I don't think my improvement is due to minoxidil. I have been trying to decide whether I need it or not and seems to be in 2 minds. If I am a good responder to finasteride and can get a bit of regrow then there is no reason for me to use minoxidil for now and can leave this in the arsenal until later on when (hopefully not) finasteride wears off.

Great to hear from you. Good to hear that you started finasteride about the same time, and you are already seeing the progress. I think you are making a right choice not getting on minoxidil right away. For me, I was scared of losing my hairline too fast, so I got on it. I apply minoxidil only on my hairline & temples. How old are you, and what is your situation?

I am 25, my hairloss has been slowly on going thing for last 3 years, but just this summer that I noticed that my hair was extremely thin. My hair looks flat, but it is probably impossible to tell that if I am balding unless look very closely at me. I do think that my hairline has been receded, but not too bad. My hair on temples are quite thin. I see thick & very thin hairs in that region that hoping having them thickened up with finasteride would take me to where I wanna be.

I wish you a good luck, and let's keep in touch with our results.

I am 28 now. Will be 29 by Feb next year. I only first noticed my diffuse thinning in October 2002. But I have actually waited for it to happen all my life since my father is bald before he was 40.

I don't actually have a hairline problem per se. I had a lot of hair and my hairline was just a wall. Now it is slightly less so but certainly looks normal.

Re:minoxidil. I can't really say I was on it. I only bought it in Oct 03 and in the first 2 weeks was applying it religiously. But then I read the idea about leaving it for later if finasteride is doing the job right now so I have backed right off on minoxidil. Now I am only applying it once every other night and I will probably ween right off it over the next 2 weeks. If I figure I can't maintain on finasteride alone I will be right back on it.

Yeah I was told by a tricologist (spelling?) that I have lost between 30-40% of my density. But like I said I had a lot of hair before so I look perfectly alright now and if I can keep what I have I am happy.

I wish you a good luck, and let's keep in touch with our results.

Thanks buddy. Good luck to you too.

I've been on finasteride for almost 10 months now with negligible at best results. When this last batch of 2.5mg finasteride runs out, I'm making the jump to dutasteride. I'll hit this thing like a bowl... heavy, hard, and straight to the dome..

I've also stored away the box of minoxidil for the moment, I'm waiting to see the results of in first. I'm into 8 weeks so far, I definiatly can see the hair shedding slowing down, but since I need some regrowth I might hit the minoxidil later next year
