here on my 4 yearly visit to this forum, looks like shaving is still the only real treatment available and nothing is set to replace it in the next 5-10 years…

I gave up fighting baldness 4 years ago. Funny thing is, I decided to watch the forum too.
I remember waiting from 2014 to 2020 for treatment. I'm glad I stopped waiting in the end. But it's still a bit disappointing.

Let no joyful voice be heard! Let no man look up at the sky with hope! And let this day be cursed by we who ready to wake… the Kraken!

It’s been a while since I last logged into the forum, but it’s good to see we’re still only 5 years away from a cure. I was starting to worry we might’ve finally come to our senses and pushed it back to 10!

On a serious note, I started treating my hair loss back in 2014 with finasteride and minoxidil. At the time, I genuinely believed we’d have moved on to a more advanced treatment by now. Sadly, that hasn’t been the case, and here I am—still taking a daily pill and applying minoxidil twice a day.

That said, I’m thankful I started early. These treatments have helped me maintain most of my hair, with only minor recession over the years. While it’s frustrating that we haven’t seen a real breakthrough yet, at least the current options have helped keep things stable for me, and I’m sure for many others as well.

For newcomers, my best advice is to make a decision early on. If you're not ready for the long-term commitment of treatments that may cause side effects, consider shaving, embracing the look and your head and freeing yourself from the constant stress of slow recession. If you’re determined to keep your hair, start treatment as soon as possible—and as long as you are not experiencing sides, don’t stress over whether it’s working or the shedding you might experience. You’re doing all you can, and that worry is unnecessary. Assess your situation yearly and if your hair looks the same or better and If you’re fortunate enough to avoid side effects, stick with it for the long haul. Hopefully one day, a safer alternative to finasteride and minoxidil will emerge... I'm thinking in the next 5 years or so ;).
