My Blood Test Results

Hey guys,

As you might know, I am a 21 year old who's been taking Propecia for 3 full years. I got a full blood test done the other day and just got my results.

My total testosterone level is 799 ng/dL -- the normal range quoted by the lab sheet for my age is 241-827 ng/dL.

My total estrogens level is 212 pg/mL -- the range is 40-115.

Clearly, my total est. is high. My guess is that it is from the extra testosterone not converted into DHT, which is then aromatized into estrogen.

For those of you that know a lot of this stuff (e.g. Bryan, gourmetstylewellness.com, Bruce, etc.) -- what do you think of my levels? I am pretty disheartened by them, and am considering getting off the Propecia and living with baldness. But first, I am going to take Arimidex, a very small dose (0.5 mg/week), to see if my sex is normal again.

All your candid comments and thoughts appreciated. Especially those of you who know what you're talking about. 8O

I just got my blood work done as well, but my retarded doctor decided I didnt need an estrogen blood test =\

LH 3.5 Normal average 1.5-9.3 IMO this is low, especially for a 20 year old

Prolactin 10.4 average 2.0-18.0 - Normal

Total Testosterone 601 average 241-827 -- IMO this is slightly low, considering this also applies to 60 year old men. Someone my age should have higher

T4 Total 8.8 average 5.6-14.9
T3 Uptake 32.5 average 27.8-40.7
T4 Free 2.86 Average 1.53-3.85

MY LH and total T imo seem low, few other people have told me it is low for my age as well and that the "average" takes into account old men.

I just need to get my DHT and estrogen checked, but I need to find another doctor to do that now ;\

That and I went to show my doctor a bit of gyno I seem to be getting under my right nipple that I KNOW was never there before, she told me it was just from puberty =\ Didnt listen to me at all when I said I had never had it there.

Tril,

I am considering "trying" out Arimidex for a few weeks. You might consider the same. Something along the lines of .25 mg twice/week.

Bryan -- what is your opinion on this with respect to my estrogen levels?

Didn't check my LH -- just checked serum test. and total serum estrogens. I would probably have to go to an endo to get that sh*t checked out.

my family doctor did it, but she refused estrogen and DHT =P

I might just say to hell with it and try arimidex see how I feel. Things cant get worse =P Although I would like to get these other 2 done before I tried anything.

Drinkrum,

What, if any, side effects are you experiencing?

Trilidon,

What is the difference between T3 and T4 and what is T3 uptake?

Honestly im not 100% sure on the differences between the T things.

I just know T4 free and total test are what really matters in our cases.

D R so basically it's the sexual side effects that are bothering you?You are assuming it's the raised estrogen levels then.Well arimidex will lower them for sure and since you have no gyno like I mentioned in the PM you should be okay with it.First I suggest an endo instead of a GP. If you decide to try Arimidex use only half a pill twice a week.My GP put me on the full one MG a day and my estrogen went bye bye.Too bad my gyno did not go with it.hehe

Hormone levels tend to fluctuate a great deal during the day so I'm not sure how much stock to put in one test.
Either way it sounds like increased estrogen or lowered dht or the combination of both is bothering your system. Why not try topical spironolactone, minoxidil, and nizoral?

Harry,

Tropicals aren't going to affect my side effects I don't believe. Something internal is probably more affective. Nizoral is simply a shampoo -- its effects on male pattern baldness are murky at best. For me, nizoral dries my hair incredibly -- I could probably light it on fire by showing it some sun. I prefer T-Gel. And minoxidil. doesn't have any effect on excess estrogen.

Thank you for your input MrTel. I am planning to use 0.50 mg/week if that. 1 mg/day is ridiculous! That's the full dosage for women!

Anyway, you noticed that while you were on Arim. your libido went up. Did you notice any change in your hairloss situation? I am afraid that combining finasteride. with Arimidex would counteract the beneficial hair response from finasteride. What do you think?

Well my hairloss got worse quickly when I quit Propecia and this was soon after quitting Arimidex so it's hard to know.
