My doctor won't presribe finasteride to me after reading the drug profile

yeah, so what should I do? I really really don't want to go bald; I have done quite a bit of research, read personal accounts/stories

and the pro's outweigh the cons for me.

She thought it would be "too dangerous" give that I am relatively young still, but how does age have to do with anything? she mentioned the fact that "it can cause cancer" is this proven to increase the risk, or does that mean that there MIGHT be a link? I also read that it lowers the risk of prostate cancer...so.

I figured, if I don't get any side effects, I can at least stop when I hit 40 or something. But please god, I really want my hair to stay.

What should I do? should I bother to get another doctor all together? for the most part I like them and everything. Would going to a walk-in clinic doctor help? I've had them prescribe them things before.

..What is "IT"?

This is the vaguest post ever. I assume you mean finasteride. Get it from online.

Well, before you go against your doctor's recommendation, how old are you? Are you aware of the 1% chance of side effects? Take all those into consideration before starting it. If your recession isn't too bad, try rogaine and S5 spironolactone cream and see if your hair stabilizes or continues to regress.

Get a second opinion, I had high blood pressure and it took 5 doctors to get what I wanted. Now my blood pressure is normal.

I'm in my mid-20s now, I'm done growing and ****.

I'm really baby-faced and kind of slender, ectomorph.

My hair is a norwood 2 now but it's been thinning really fast more then anything else. My hairline has stayed relatively the same, though.
I've been getting worse lately though ,and seems to be going through another phase of progression where it's thinnning/going back more.

I tried some nizoral and it made some of my hair shed/fall out or something. It looks way worse now and has actually become noticeable. I keep a good eye on it and know it was the damn shampoo, especially since it happened RIGHT after I used it.

Not only that, but my hair loss has never happened that fast before. It ****ing better grow back I swear to god.

Anyway, is it really only 1% chance? that's nothing.

I have such a high sex drive, I'm not really scared of getting erectile dysfunction, lol(even though I know it can happen to anyone)
I think my ol' penor is super-human or something. It drives me nuts.

Are Walk-in-clinics alright? or should I just go through the process of finding another doctor...?

erm...I'm waiting to see a dermatologist, but I have a feeling it'll take forever for me to get in to see them.

Why is that? So you saw a MD, or a Dermatologist?

I'm in my mid 20's too. But I was prescribed. If you can't get a prescription, buy it online. Do it now. Everyday you wait, it might get worse. In regards to your Nizoral, it's working. Keep in mind, you WILL shed some. Those are the hairs that were going bad, but the Nizoral is reviving. They'll keep growing, then shed, until they are "good" hairs, and stay and grow like normal.

In regards to sides, there's evidence that its all in your head. Get on the drug, and treat it like any other pill, like a pain killer. Don't think about it. My "side effects" are a lack of morning wood. Worth it to me.

EDIT: You'll shed on finasteride as well, and its doing the same as the Nizoral. Be prepared for the sheds. I'm in one now. But be positive:wave:

You dont go bald from shampoos. Dont look for excuses do what you can to address the problem with the tools available. If male pattern baldness doesnt bother you at all then your cured, but if your like most then its worth doing what you can right now. What we have isnt perfect or risk free but its way way better than doing nothing. Once its gone you cant get it back

I still say someone that avoids propecia is going to go bald eventually, and believe me I am pretty anti drug myself. You have to be realistic though with so few choices. Most of the alternatives simply dont work

It is extremely unlikely that saw palmetto destroyed your life.

The thing, Nizoral did affect my hair. I know for a fact it did. I thought that, it was just normal or in my head. But every time I used it I lost more hair then I have ever did all at once. Is that for sure mean it's working? geesh, I don't ever remember reading that shedding was good for nizoral. It made my hair more sparse all over. Where do you order it online and what is a reliable site?

Even if taking something that effects 5ar doesn't cause anything noticeable, it will still affect your body in some form or another, besides just your hair, I imagine.

The thing is "side effects" are just "effects" and not just in in actuality desired like "stopping of hair loss/regrowth" ha. It's not something to take lately, geesh.
People try and make you feel okay about it, but it's still not really that great.

I kind of think that at this point though, baldness CAN (looks alright on some men) be kind of cosmetically disfiguring. I mean, seriously, it can really make a man age faster and look sort of ugly and harsh. I don't think it's nice at all.

Its okay going bald is always an option too. Guys with good hair wouldnt look as good if no one else went bald right?

This is pretty much where I stand now too. Not worth it. From reading old posts, I think I got myself in the same situation you did with Saw Palmetto, heh. Did it really take a long time to resolve for you, too?
