My Hair System Is Depressing Me, Help!

I have been using hair system for almost 2 years now. I was diagnosed with Cancer at the age of 21 and from then on my hair loss speed up. Anyway, I had my first (and only) hair system (natural Indian hair) done in London. At first few months I was very happy but when I start losing the hair on the system, I start feeling depressed again just as like when my hair start falling off during cancer. I desperately need your advice on the following:

1. How to prevent hair system hair from falling off so quickly?

2. Should I start using synthetic over natural hair? (I’m thinking it’s cheaper)

3. Will I be able to workout, swim, and maintain my active lifestyle even if I use sythetic hair? It’s important for me to be active or workout everyday because of my health history.

Please my hair is thinning out now just 4 months after I start using my 4th hair system. If I cannot help it, I would much rather switch to synthetic just to sustain the cost as natural hair is expensive

Thank you,
OP

Ollie, sorry to hear your story; that is very hard on you.

There is some very realistic synthetic hair, mostly made in Japan under brands like Toupelon and Kanekalon. It looks very realistic and it doesn't fade, but it's not cheap - in fact it's more expensive than human hair. The cheaper Chinese synthetic hair doesn't look real - it looks shiny and artificial.

I don't think synthetic hair is any better than human hair in terms of shedding - it is knotted onto a base just like human hair, so it can also fall out. Synthetic hair (whether cheap or expensive) has one big disadvantage - it cannot be bleached, and therefore the knots cannot be bleached. For that reason I would say synthetic hair is only really viable for a man if you have blond hair or a very high density piece where the knots can't be seen.

My preliminary view is you would be better to concentrate on getting a cheaper source for your hairpieces (how much are you currently paying?) and extending the life of those units by using knot sealer. Have you tried that?

Hi Noah,

Thank you very much for your reply.

Although it’s been almost 2 years that I’m using a hair system, I feel that there’s a lot to explore and I’m not making a lot of research so what you told me on your response are all foreign to me but definitely willing to try especially the knot sealer. I’m paying around £300 for my hair system and I need to change at least 2-3 a year. Do you have any other recommendations where I can get it cheap and also a little faster, if possible?

If the Japanese synthetic hair is pricier over natural hair, why should I opt for the synthetic hair considering that their shedding (I assume) would be the same.

Thanks a million
Ollie

I don't think you should change to synthetic hair. I will PM you some suggestions for cheaper suppliers.

Hey ollie, i'm curious because i'm about to invest in my first hair system (i'm also 24 years old), and I wanted to know if you're able to lead an active lifestyle with the system (especially in the summer heat)?
