Im a constant viewer and only a recent poster on these boards, but I think there must be a lot of people with my mindset that I wanted to post (my first post). In a nutshell, I’m a defuse thinner since 19. I’m 36 now. Since 19 I’ve been obsessed. I had incredible hair when younger. The whole double crown, could barely put a comb through it cos it was soo thick scenario. Anyway, I became parotid at 19, I’ve always shed loads. Easily 100-200 hairs a day for years. On the pillow, shower etc. As it’s been 17 years, I really want to point out a few points/rules for the younger members viewing this who are worried and starting their hairloss journey and what I have discovered in my 17 years so far, in ten points;
1st: never ask advice from family or friends
Girlfriends/boyfriend/mum/dad/gran etc. Their opinion will ALWAYS be biased on your hairloss to not hurt your feelings. Always! Trust only your own judgement and a doctor (dermatologist/hair loss specialist)
2nd: don’t worry about shedding hair!
I shed loads I’ve always shed loads, women with perfect hair, ex girlfriends have shed like cats. Don’t count all the hairs. Or agonise about it at a young age
3rd; understand if you are thinning or receeding or both. Ultimately understand what you are dealing with (I’m a thinner)
4th; learn hairstyles to suit your hair
I’ve friends who grow their hair out and keep it long when they have crown thinning, also friends with slick back and they are receeding. Your barber is your friend
5th. Take action - options
I started Finasteride when I panicked at 21 years old. Along with minoxidil. I stopped both after a few months. Purely as I was a student and couldn’t fund it. Plus I asked my girlfriend and parents who said my hair looked ‘really thick so don’t worry’. As a result, I didn’t see any real results growth or loss
6th. How much does it mean to you?
Late 20’s a lot of guys decide ‘enough is enough’ and shave it. If this is you great. Go for it. I couldn’t recommend this enough. If like me read on...
7th. Into my 30’s I’ve realised I need to keep hold of it. I know people say “oh, when you are into your 30’s it doesn’t matter. This is largely bullshit! I’m still young and had a double crown ffs.
8th; talk to mates
I know this sounds unnerving, but by now I’m talking to friends. There really isn’t anything embarrassing about trying to keep your hair. It’s realy not a thing about being vain. (Ie; you wouldn’t shoot a women down as vain, for losing her hair)
9; meds
This is a big one for me. Specifically the discussion on Finasteride. I find it totally incomprehensible how some people focus on the ‘sides’ from finisteride. I’ve never had sides. 99.9% people have never had sides. The ball ache or the high blood pressure is probably closer linked to the increased alcohol intake for the stress of hair loss to the very timid drug. Minoxidil is a no brainer if you are genuinely concerned. To the level I’ve been at. Just start taking both
10; hair products.
So. This is a biggy. I am totally amazing why toppic (or another hair fibre) isn’t talked about on here. Fibres are my best friend. That and ‘sea salt spray’ (adds weight and volume) or pomade (if you have thin hair it give shine whilst the fibres hide the scalp
Me now;
I’ve been battling hairloss for years. Wanted to offer an insight, especially for the younger members of this group. It fills me with dread all the 17-20 year olds who are shitting it. Just wanted to make people aware that there is hope
