Hej guys, so I am really concerned about my young brother situation. I can clearly see that male pattern baldness started. I think he started to be worried even though he didn t say anything yet. I have no idea about what to do mostly because he is just 15 (9 years younger)! I know that I probably should care my own business but he is my brother and I don t want him to have problems at this young age. What could I do?! I know finasteride is not a viable med right now.....but I have to do something to help him!

male pattern baldness at 15 is quiet uncommon. Are you sure he has hairloss?
Also do you suffer from hairloss. Your 9 years older so could be a good indicator of his progression

I know it is quite uncommon, but i am pretty sure. I mean I do not want to horn in but I think it is getting worse and worse.
I ve a receding hairline and I started to thin..something around nw2-3 but i starteD treatement.
The point is that I just don t want him to experience everything so soon but I I do not want to make him realize that cause it would be worse.
Suggestion?Should I tell my mom or bring him to a derm?

I would tell him about the treatments available but only if you're certain its male pattern baldness because once you tell someone especially that young they might be losing hair that idea absolutely consume you. Just be sure it's not someone getting a mature hairline

It is not just mature hairline cause the problem I guess it s all over.... But as you said the idea at such a young age wiould destroy him....maybe I could tell my mother about it and say that those treatments are for something else..... No idea, I don t want him to live this nightmare. Maybe just a visit to the derm could be ok, what do you think?

I know how you feel.. My younger brother (at 17) is starting to show signs of receding temples but he's (still) very thick everywhere else. But it concerns and worries me a lot since I know he has low self esteem and literally wants to stay home from school if he has a breakout... I can't imagine how baldness would ruin him! I hope I'm being paranoid but with a bald father and sister how big of a chance does he stand really... I just hope it won't take him so soon :(

evillocks, does your brother have blonde hair, and what about you...

Not blond, but a light brown (the both of us). I have a finer hair texture but always had a lot of it, until now, and he has a coarser texture and has a lot of it as well. but we have the same colour of hair

put him on this regime for now until he can get finasteride:

minoxidil
ru5884
ketoconazol

This is the only "safe" treatment he can get. I started to lose my hair when I was 15 too (now 17) and the ugly truth is that if it really started that early it is just too aggressive and you are going to have a hard time trying to stop it from progressing further.

maybe he has a low self-esteem because he knows he is balding?

But should I tell my mother, or should I bring him to a derm? the fact is that realozing it could destroy his own life and worsen things.... the thing I am most scare :/

Get him on Finasteride, minoxidil, keto shampoo ASAP.
Going to doctor might help but Believe me they are going to say the same except finasteride.
But finasteride is the only thing which actually does all the work when blocking DHT.
Even I started losing hair at 16 aggressively and the Doctor said not to use finas before 18 because there was no proof that it is safe at this age.
But I still started it, Couldn't wait for 2 years to start.
losing hair can actually do more damage mentally than finas physically. It was my choice and everything went good. I am 22 as of now, maintained around 80-90% of what I had when I was 16.
Rest is for you ti decide and take a calculated risk.

if you cant talk to your brother about this why not wrote him a letter that there are treatments available and you are there to help him. Dr. lee mentioned at HLH he had seen as early as 13 years old when male pattern baldness started.

I would strongly disagree with people telling you to get your 15 year old brother on Finasteride. It's illegal for patients under 18 for a reason. DHT is a crucial hormone in the development of men going through puberty and it could cause permanent damage.

Get him on Minoxidil and Nizoral.

He should look into underlying medical conditions. Hair loss is not always male pattern baldness. And especially at that young of an age.

Androgenic hair loss has been known to begin as early as age 12. Chances are that your 15 year old brother's hair loss is probably androgenic in nature. He's too young to start Finasteride. He should not even touch that drug until he's at least 18. Minoxidil and Nizoral shampoo are his best bet until he turns 18, and then he can start thinking about using finasteride or dutasteride.

I can't say whether or not you should tell your brother that he's losing his hair, because I don't have enough information to go on. I'm thinking perhaps you shouldn't tell him just yet. In any case, he's too young to start finasteride, so even if you tell him that he's losing his hair, at his age his only treatment options are Minoxidil and Nizoral anyway, both of which are very weak compared to finasteride.

I started loosing when I was 15. Start using minoxidil right away. And get finasterid as soon as possible. Worked for me. 24 now and still have the same hair as I had when I was 18.

DONT get ur brother on finasteride, i really doubt the hairloss he will see from now till 17 will really effect much of his self esteem. Most of us who notice balding at 20-23 already had recession at 16-17 but didnt really pay it any attention because it wasnt any major hairloss. Wait for him to at least be 17 before you go talk to a Doctor about getting him on finasteride.
