Hey everyone.
I'm confused by this, and want someone who knows more about hair cycles/effects of minoxidil to chime in.
I've been losing hair for about 11 years. Early on, I tried minoxidil but was not regular with it, at best I took it several months with night time only application. I saw no hair growth, and it was greasy and made my hair and scalp itchy and so got off it.
I was, and am, on finasteride though, for about 11 years.
About 6 months ago, I wanted to give a last ditch efforts to meds before really settling on going for a hair transplant. So I met with a dermatologist who suggested Rogaine Foam and continuation of finasteride.
I was on Rogaine Foam for the past 6 months, religiously (day and night applications), I would massage it at my temples/hairline area where I needed it.
For 5-6 months I saw no noticeable regrowth, no shedding either. I have been off of the Rogaine Foam for about 2-3 weeks now and my hairline region seems thinner and definitely higher, in only 2-3 weeks. I got off of it because it says if you don't see results in 6 months your body doesn't respond to it.
What could be the most probably cause of this new, sudden (2-3wk) loss of hair?
1) Is it possible that, while not providing any regrowth, Rogaine somehow maintained my hairs, and if so, is it possible they would all fall out after only 2-3 weeks of discontinuation of Rogaine?
2) Or is it possible/ more likely that I am now finally experiencing a shed after being on it for 6 months?
I have always known Rogaine to be a growth stimulant whereas Finasteride a preservative/growth stimulant. Does Rogaine preserve too?
The only other thing that changed is that I had used Finpecia from inhousepharmacy the past 2 months, while my propecia order ran out, and now I am back on propecia.
