Need help on how to apply Rogaine foam

The itchiness and flakes from the Kirkland minoxidil liquid finally got to me. I ordered 4 cans of foam for $53 off of Amazon.

My hair is generally 1 inch to 2 inches long nowadays because it covers up my temples and still looks pretty good. I am very confused on how to apply this Rogaine foam. If i put it in my fingers, it melts VERY fast and starts dissolving into liquid. I find it very tough to really rub it in?? I found the liquid way easier to apply all over the head by putting the little dropper "through" my hair and onto the scalp and squeezing out a little.

Any advice here?

It's MUCH easier to apply if you stick your fingers in ice water for about 10 seconds, then dry them. The colder your fingers and the can are, the longer it stays thick.

Ok well I've been applying a bit more than a half capful and just kinda rubbing it in all over, it seems to work ok?? Just doesn't feel as efficient of use as the liquid. I'm applying probably 1.5 capfuls once a day.

If I only did half I don't thik I could get much more than my hairline done.

Best part is no more dripping down my face after applying. Definitely had to watch on that with the liquid.

It's not as efficient but it's so much better, dries faster and no itching.

The No-Itching is HUGE factor in me buying this stuff. The regular minoxidil didn't affect me much the first couple of months but then I started getting those flakes like crazy in mid-January and it only got worse the more I used it

I never put it on my fingers before applying it. I pull my hair back and then spray a thin layer directly on my hair line. Then, I part my hair down the middle and apply a thin strip there. I tap it in with my fingers. Then I part my hair two more inches over and apply a strip of the foam again. I apply about five strips of the foam each time, one to my hair line and four along the top of my head. I'm probably using an insane amount of the foam, but I just don't care at this point.

Here's how I apply the foam: I first liquify it and then use a dropper. I fill a cup with hot water, fill the cap of the foam bottle with foam. Hold the cap with the foam into the cup with hot water so the foam melts. ( ofcourse be carefull not to spill any water into the cap ) Then you can use a dropper just like with the liquid minoxidil. You keep the benefits of the faster drying and it's much easier then messing with the foam.

I just fill the cap halfway or whatever and keep dabbing on tiny amounts over and over with cold finger. Stretches out even more than with liquid.

Thats a good idea, I'm assuming half a cap of foam will be less than half a cap of liquid after it melts. Correct?

I never use the cap when applying foam....just apply directly to scalp and use as much as it takes to cover scalp

I wash my hair before using the foam, then let it dry slighty so my hair is damp

Also i run hot water over the can for a few seconds.I find this better as the foam melts slighty once applied and i can massage it deep in scalp without tearing out other hairs!

Hope this helps!

Some good ideas in this thread - I normally try to heat my hand on a radiator before dispensing the foam into it. If the radiator isn't on then I'm just rubbing my hands together beforehand as vigorously as I can. It really is imperative to have warm hands otherwise the foam just doesn't melt and you cant get a feel of proper distribution of the minoxidil.

have you seen positive results since doing this? i am worried that using the foam vehicle might play in part to the effectiveness of the rogaine foam. :dunno:

Ehm, what do you think what happens when you put the foam directly to your scalp? Come on...think...think...think...correct.it turns to liquid.
