Hi All,

I'm a newbie to this forum .I'm completely stuck and lost all my confidence because of my hair loss. Your response would be really helpful to me.

I'm 29 year male. I'm suffering from male pattern baldness since 3 years. Now i lost most of my hairs in my frontal area.

Went to a dermatologist and he suggested to take following medicines.

1. Mintop Forte Foam 5% (Tropical solution ; Apply 2 times a day : morning after bath / night before bedtime )
2. Halox - Apply it after 10 mins of Minoxidil/Minitop solution (Only for first 10 days)
3. Finax (Finasteride) 1mg - Daily night 1 tablet
4. Adgain - Daily night 1 tablet

I'm bit hesitant to take Minoxidil / Finasteride because of the following reasons
- Have to continue this medicine life long
- Many people reported that stopping these medicines after sometime will cause very drastic hair loss which will further lead to the state worst than what you were earlier .
- Finasteride might have side-effects on sexual hormones.

Would like to know how effective would be the Minoxidil / Finasteride for regrowing the hair? How long do we have to proceed with this medicine ? What are the possible side-effects ? Is there any other better alternative for treating male pattern baldness.

Thank a loads for all your help!

Minoxidil is a long term friendship.Once you start..you never stop and you have to do it no matter what. You have to put it up 2 hours before you sleep...and it gotta be on your head for 4 hours etc.Frankly it makes you look like a idiot. It kinda confines you to your room. The foam thing doesnt really work(The foam thing is supposed to make your hair look better with mintop on it but it doesnt really work..only topical mintop does)..

finasteride on the other hand is again a long term friendship but in my frank opinion..first go for minoxdil only and then finasteride if minoxdil is not enough. If you are taking finasteride..do get your semen analysis done 3 months after taking finasteride to see if there is anything amiss. You also obviously need to get a semem analysis done before you take finasteride.

There is frankly no alternatives.

Thou try having a healthy lifestyle..less stress..limit drinking and smoking and try to cut down on mastubration in general(just twice a week)..

yes it is a long term commitment. The alternative is to do nothing and go bald.

Are you done having kids or planning on having kids soon?

your dermatologist is right you should start those

1. Yea you have to take them for life, but if you ever decide you don't care about your hair anymore or it's not worth it you can just stop
2. It will never be worse than if you had never taken it.
3. Yes but the sides go away after stopping and only happen in a few percent of people.
Those meds are BY FAR the best option out there, especially finasteride

Thanks a loads mates for your friendly and informative response .. You guys are my savior.

arvindekrahi ,

Many thanks for your comments. As of now , as you suggested, i just started with Mintop Forte Foam 5% . I'm applying it both morning (after bath ) and night (before bed). I'm not planning to take finasteride at this point of time. In addition , I'm planning to go for Natural DHT blockers instead of finasteride which might keep me away from side-effects. I'm not married yet so I'm equally concerned about the side-effects as well. Some of the natural DHT blocker which i'm considering are below

- Saw Palmetto
- Beta Sitosterol
- Pumpkin seed
- Stinging nettle
- Green Tea (Plan take to take atleast 4 per day )

Form loads of blogs i read , it stated the medicine which work for BPH (prostate) will work for Androgenic alopecia as well , because both plays around with DHT.

I'm also planning to take either Biotin tablet or Adgain (Which contains Biotin + additional vitamins).

And in addition , I never knew about semen analysis. Thanks for guiding me with that . I'll try to get that done. And also it would be good if you any suggestion on food habits and multi vitamin consumption.

Thanks a lot again. You help is very much appreciated.

look
minoxidil would not fix the cause of the problem,
finasteride will fix most of the cause, dutasteride will fix more.

you also have to keep on eating for the rest of your life right ?
your choice man

Anyways I'm still hesitant and away from finasteride because of the side-effect as I'm equally worried about the counter effect :(

Since a month , i've using Minioxidil Forte Foam 5% twice a day( morning after bath / night before bedtime ) and Xtraglo tablet (Night)

Minioxidil is resulting in lots of dry skin flakes and dandruff. Because of that, my hair roots are getting very weak and facing loads of hair fall. Already i lost loads of hair prior treatment , now the dry skin is adding up all the more. I'm really very much worried now.

For dandruff , My dermatologist was suggesting about Halox lotion / AF-150 mg tablet at night for short term use. Halox lotion is to be used after 10 mins of applying Minoxidil solution. Not sure if this really helps , but planning to go with it.

My dermi was also suggesting about the Mesotherapy option.

- Around 8 to 10 session will be there with gap of 10 days between each session and he mentioned cortisone is the solution used in Mesotherapy.
P.S: Dermaroller will be used for opening up pores to inject/push the cortisone solution.

Any help on the same would be really appreciated.

i don't know why you guys get so afraid of finasteride by reading a few negative reviews online. They had the side effects doesn't necessarily mean you'll also get it. I'm 18 and i take finasteride orally as well as apply it topically. Haven't had any problems with it. And if you do experience low sex drive or something you can stop using it. The side effects are not permanent and will go away once you stop it. For dandruff you can buy Nizoral 2% which is easily available everywhere without a prescription in India.
