Need honest opinions on my shaved head, concealer or not?

I just shaved my head down, 1 guard on sides and back and a 2 on top. I go back and forth between thinking it looks ok, to being super paranoid. In the past I did use concealer but then got comfortable going without it. At that time I styled my hair short, but not shaved down.

Then I got this awful haircut, the barber cut the middle top of my scalp shorter than the top sides. It was as if he wanted to call attention to my thinning by making sure I had shorter hair there. I decided to shave it down again since it looked so bad. Now I'm trying to decide if I should go back on concealer or not.

As you can see, for some reason my hairline is darker than my scalp. I'm happy I still have a good hairline, but I'm paranoid because I don't have uniform thickness. I have this patch at the hairline on the right (left in the picture) that's thicker and kind of stands out. I also have a bit of thinning at the crown, though it's much more noticable with longer hair (but with longer hair I can cover it up...as long as the wind doesn't blow too hard =)) I would almost prefer to thin those thicker areas out.

I don't know anymore. I hate using concealer, but I must admit it is pretty effective. If I can get away with not using it with this short hair I'd much
rather do that. I'd like some opinions from anyone that's willing to comment. These pics are without concealer in a bright bathroom lighted with 4 75w lights, nowhere near natural sunlight though=(

In all honesty i think it looks really good.

And yes, im sure you are paranoid about not having "uniform thickness" but believe me, no one is going to stop and examine your head and check for thickness consistency of your mega-short hair :)

The only thing that could possibly occur to them is whether you shaved your hair because you like the look or because you're going bald. I believe your hairline would definately convince them that it is the former :)

You have a lot of hair!

If you let it grow 1 inch, is it still noticeable?

Why are you asking about concealers?

Even a man with no male pattern baldness, that shaves his head, will look like this. I mean, the scalp will be visible, it's totally normal.

Thanks everyone, I do feel a bit better now. However I know my head is shinier in daylight, but maybe it doesn't matter since it's shaved anyway. I guess I'm just being picky about it.

Btw, if it grows out an inch then it's really noticable actually. When it grows out a bit longer than that, I can do a kind of comb forward Caesar look, which looks ok. The only problem is, I have hairspray the $%$##% out of it. When it gets out of place the diffuse thinning is obvious. I'm pretty active so I'm always fussing with my hair because of that. Roll down the windows, forget it=) Anyone else know what I'm talking about?

Leave it like that, totally unnoticeable you're thinning.

man, your hair looks almost exactly like mine (i too shave my head w/ a 1 or 2 guard).... but your hairline is 10x better so u should feel very fortunate. I agree with everyone else, when u shave it like that, casual people won't even notice u have male pattern baldness.

btw, this may be a stupid question, but can u even use concealer when your hair is that short?

bet: you have the reverse widow's peak too? It's pretty strange, I'm happy to still have a hairline though.

kalbo: yes indeed, you can basically water concealer down and cover it all on top. it basically shades it all to look a little darker.

i guess i'll do without the concealer for now. i'm still a little paranoid when it's really bright out though. i'm hoping to tan my head a bit in the sun...but i'm also afraid of damaging the follicles with too much exposure, what to do, what to do.

man i wish my head looked like jack's from lost. his head is buzzed but THICK AS HELL.

Dude, looks great, I wish I still had that much of a hairline left- if I do it, I'm going to have to go bic because I think it would look horrible at that length.

when it comes to male pattern baldness, i think i'd prefer to have a receding hairline instead of diffuse thinning. i know in the short term i can get away with the illusion of hair. when it gets worse i can use concealer. but then it'll get to the point where the whole top of my head will be too thin to do anything with. i feel like diffuse thinning is really aggressive, and to top it off, diffuse thinners are bad transplant candidates =O

what really kinda sucks though, is i've had fine/thin hair all my life. it's never been thick and easy to style. my goal right now is to maintain as much as i can, and hope there's some new treatments around the corner. in the meantime, i'm working out and bulking up so i can pull of the bic look when the time comes. at least i have a decent headshape for it, so that's my final option.
