Need Some Pointers Before Starting My Adventure

Hi,

Long story short in the past couple of years I have lost over 160 pounds in weight and have suffered a lot of hair loss at the time. Doing some research the hair loss seems to follow a typical male pattern baldness pattern:

My Hairdresser first told me about this a year ago and since ive been lurking the forums wanting to take action but being essentially too scared to do anything. As of today I want to do something about this, I went to see my doctor who essentially told me that the hairloss is due to my weight loss and will grow back in due course (essentially fobbing me off).

So basically what do I do?, I've read alot about the "big 3" is this the best course of treatment for my hairloss pattern, or would I better better starting with a combo of minoxodil + nizoral first?

Any help would be appreciated.

If you start with anything first its propecia as its the biggest component of the Big 3.

Yeah, I've been looking at ordering Propecia, I'm still concerned about the side effects even though they only affect 1/100 people. I was wondering if I could get away with just Minoxodil and nizoral only?,

minoxidil doesn't actually fight the root cause of male pattern baldness which is DHT.
Nizoral has some anti-androgen properties but is considered far to weak to actually do anything by itself.

So to answer your question no you can't. You may be able to buy yourself a year or two off of minoxidil, but you will still lose your hair eventually.

Unless your hair loss is in a bizarre pattern or something obviously weird is going on its actually kind of stupid to think its anything but male pattern baldness in a man. I would probably start an argument with my doctor if he told me to change my diet or something. I mean look is it possible its from losing weight? Sure anything is possible. Would I put male pattern baldness higher on the odds list? Yes. Its clearly the typical male pattern baldness pattern.
In a couple years better options will show up but for now its finasteride or bust. I agree with you in not wanting to take a drug so I dont blame anyone for not doing it

OK, ill go back to the doctors insisting I need treatment. In terms of getting finasteride do I just ask for a prescription?, I'm not sure if finasteride can be prescribed in the UK, Boots have an offer of 6 months Propecia for £190. I've heard about requesting proscar as its way cheaper.

What is the easiest/safest way to obtain Propecia?

Isn't it better to buy a year or two with minoxidil then jump on finasteride?, or is the consensus if we are going to start finasteride, today is better than a few years down the line?,

Thanks for the help guys, went back to the doctor explained my situation and he has prescribed me finasteride,

My regime from tomorrow:
Everyday - 1mg Finasteride (Will have 0.5mg for first two weeks)

Shampoo:
Monday: nizoral + Dove Conditioner
Tuesday: T-Gel Shampoo
Wednesday: nizoral + Dove Conditioner
Thursday: T-Gel Shampoo
Friday: nizoral + Dove Conditioner

Weekends ill give my hair a break. As for why dove conditioner?, its actually the one conditioner which makes my hair look good after nizoral. In terms of minoxidil ill wait 6 months or so and see how im responding to the finasteride first.

Anybody have any opinions on my regime?, Any better shampoo combinations?

Ill post updates every month, lets hope my hair loss stops and I don't get any sides :)
