Hi everyone,

My name is Jason and Im 27 years old living in the Netherlands

I have done some reading about hairlosses and I think that this is my current situation.

I am a nw2-3 suffering from hairlosses. My hair has always been very thick and even now it is very thick, I have to visit the barber to thin it out every 1-2 week. However I have noticed hair losses at the temple corners of my head.

I do not necessary want regrowth but I would definitely love to keep it stable.
Im thinking of starting finasteride.
Is this wise? Does finasteride cause shedding? Also what happens if I stop using finasteride at age of 40, will only hairs that grew back fallout or also the hairs that were kept stable with finasteride?

Thank you all for helping and have a nice day

My doctor always advises that, before you take finasteride, you may want to check:

- testosterone, dht levels
- sperm-gram.

If you stop finasteride you will lose all of the gains and yes, most probably also the hair you would have lost without it.

You are 27 and have very good hair, I would say no signs of male pattern baldness, just a matured hairline.
Just reassess every three months or so, but for now I personally don't recommend using finasteride.

Thanks for the replies so far.
That is a very good tip roberto thanks, I will definitely check that out. Never thought of that before because I already assumed I had the male pattern baldness.

Thank you bartoow for your reply, Im actually really glad that you think its a mature hairline, I always thought its definitely male patern baldness and was already looking for “cures”. I will definitely keep your advice in my head.

First step for me is I guess to figure out whether its male pattern or just a mature hairline. Hopefully more opinions will follow

Just to make it clear a mature hairline is the first phase of male pattern baldness. If it progressives to a NW3 or more or your lose density, we call it full blown male pattern baldness. If you retain a NW1 or your juvenile hairline and your same density, you will be considered to not be balding at all. Mature hairlines are very common but some guys are the unicorns and never get one.

thank you, another thing learned. I always thought it was one or another. Never occured in my mind that the male pattern can ’develop’ into male pattern baldness
