Im sure everyones going to b**ch and moan about this too, but its a fun deviation from the norm. Any suggestions on modifications? (Like I even need to ask that!):

Remember the goal here:

DETERMINING HOW RELIABLE THIS PERSON IS WHEN THEY GIVE INFORMATION.

Im sure we've all seen newbies tell other newbies to do some horribly incorrect things. Well now, the victimized newbie will know not to listen too closely to certain people, and to listen VERY closely to others. So on that note ... suggestions on wording?

1 to 100 posts - New to Hair Loss
100 to 500 posts - Still Learning the Ropes
500 to 1000 posts - Reliable Informant
1000 to 1500 posts - Well Informed Poster
1500 or higher - Hair Loss Expert

Before you say it, yes I know an expert may end up with "New to Hair Loss" as their title. ... and an idiot might end up with "Hair Loss Expert" because they post a lot. We're targeting the majority here as usual, not the minority.

Didn't even see that you posted there. Was referring to the first four posts actually.

"New to Hair Loss" asks a silly ridiculous wacky question.
Next guy up in the totem pole, "Still Learning the Ropes", isnt sure what to make of the ridiculous question but goes along with it anyways.
Next "smartest" guy responds with an "Uh...."
Deaner, "smartest" of them all says "Thats just downright ridiculous".

I found it a funny, ironic, yet accurate way of displaying how level of experience plays into the things people say on here... and how the longer you're here, the more on-target your ability to distiguish fact from fiction is.

I really like the idea of being able to vote on people's comments, and establish their reliability ranking that way. There is a mod for this forum that does just that. Should I install it? Would you guys use it?

You can privately and anonymously rank a person's ability to give good information by clicking a button on their post. Eventually, over time, they will establish a reliability ranking. They will either become well known for being an informed educated communicator of advice, or someone who says a lot of unreliable things.

I would say the only way such a system could work without members who dont like one another "griefing" one another is only allow people to make a positive vote.

The more positive votes the higher the rank. No negatives. Otherwise I guarantee you it will be abused. I was a member of an online gaming forum where they had to take away the rating system because people were griefing one another and many posters were taking it personally when others would "one-star" them to death just because they didnt like what was being said or they didnt like the person posting.

i think a persons date of registration is a good thing to go by, i saw a thread where a guy named "stabber" posted in it, i remember him from several years ago and hes been registered on the boards longer than most people; however, he's still "learning the ropes", i find that amusing =)

Well, if one wants to have a popularity contest a positive/negative reward system would be very suitable!

However if the intent is to help newbies distinguish whether or not a poster knows what he is talking about then a positive only system might be more accurate.

Plus, speaking from personal experience, allowing other members to "penalize" others divides instead of bringing people together.


However, I'm fine with whatever system is put into place as I believe those who truly know what they are talking about dont need a rank next to their name :wink:

An example would be a poster like Bryan. After reading 2 or 3 of his posts, a newbie title or not, I would know the guy knows his sh*t. Whereas you can have a popular board "clown" a lot of people like and posts alot but after reading several of their posts, experienced title or not, I'm going to just skip that "advice".


Just my humble take on it.
