Study

Abstract
Finasteride (finasteride) is the prototypical inhibitor of steroid 5α-reductase (5αR), the enzyme that catalyzes the rate-limiting step of the conversion of progesterone and testosterone into their main neuroactive metabolites. finasteride is clinically approved for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia and male baldness; while often well-tolerated, finasteride has also been shown to cause or exacerbate psychological problems in vulnerable subjects. Evidence on the psychological effects of finasteride, however, remains controversial, in view of inconsistent clinical reports. Here, we tested the effects of finasteride in a battery of tests aimed at capturing complementary aspects of mood regulation and stress reactivity in rats. finasteride reduced exploratory, incentive, prosocial, and risk-taking behavior; furthermore, it decreased stress coping, as revealed by increased immobility in the forced-swim test (FST). This last effect was also observed in female and orchiectomized male rats, suggesting that the mechanism of action of finasteride does not primarily reflect changes in gonadal steroids. The effects of finasteride on FST responses were associated with a dramatic decrease in corticotropin release hormone (CRH) mRNA and adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) levels. These results suggest that finasteride impairs stress reactivity and reduces behavioral activation and impulsive behavior by altering the function of the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis.

Not much information on the methodology so take your grain of salt when you read this study, but it is interesting regardless.
If I look back at my own experience with finasteride I can definitely relate to the inhibition of pro-social behavior, risk-taking and stress coping.

Im very sensitive to mental sides and taking finasteride or dutasteride is like taking a sugar pill in terms of mental sides. Interesting study none the less.

Posting research is a scare tactic? Do you happen to live in North Korea?

you are inadvertently scaring people into not taking finasteride (the only medication that is legitimate efficient against male pattern baldness) by posting this type of drivel, how about a positive finasteride story? just once?

"I regrew all my hair, got promoted at work, met a partner and got married, bought a new car, etc.."

instead it's always the same crap: "b-b-but finasteride gave me ED, brain cancer, irritable bowel syndrome, lowered my IQ by 30 points, blah blah blah"

There are already plenty of positive stories about finasteride on this forum. This study however, has not been posted yet. I don't see the point of posting experiences that are not my experience, or things that are already posted, but hey, they could be just me...

Hard to be objective when you're sucking on finasteride and gotta cope. Or dutasteride, in his case. That's even worse.

Take topical finasteride, oral makes you rekt. At least it would do if you were a rat.

Hey man, since you have so much power over balding (YOU WON'T let people go bald) maybe you should use these special powers and put a stop on balding...

you're misinterpreting what I said (though I'm sure that you know this)

Lol, so you're shooting the messenger because you can't deal with the scientific reality of fina?

The absolute state of your level of cope is incredible. Go to r/tressless if you only want bs feel good fina stories.

you are fixing to go bald for no real reason but whatever.. keep wasting time with experimental treatment(s) such as Zix and Seti

I wish I had started taking finasteride when I was your age (29) -- had I done that I would have all my hair and wouldn't even need to touch Duta

Why not go full transgender regimen? You will not only stop your hairloss but probably regrow your hair and will be back to a NW1.

Lol, I wish I would listen to the "fear mongering" a bit more but my ignorance of fina and my desperation pushed me over the edge to take that poison. (but yes my hairloss stopped)

And zix isn't really experimental, it's still unknown but zix exists from the early '00's. It's also backed by studies, read the zix thread if you want to know more. Wish I knew about this years ago...

Your mind is made up so I wish you good luck with f*****g up your hormones to save your hair.

For the vast majority of people finasteride is not poison, it's one of the few ways to maintain your hair, i know it gave you bad sides but using inflammatory language like saying it is poison is too fanatical and puts people off maybe considering your point of view in regards to finasteride and potential sides it causes.

If people call/describe the posting of a scientific study as "fear mongering" then I can surely use "inflammatory language".

And yes, fina is poison for your body imo, I completely stand by that comment.

Ok you are entitled to that view, i just don't think it's doing you any favors in winning people over about potential sides it causes, but it's up to you. Any update on zix yet? must be 3 months now or something you have been using it for if i remember correctly.

if it wasn't for the high risk of feminization I probably would cycle on/off estrogens -- mainly because I let my hair get to such a deplorable state (by delaying treatment) but as of right now Duta is where I draw the line.

it's so painfully obvious that you have an agenda against finasteride, stop using buzzwords such as "poison" and "transgender" as a way to scare people into not seeking treatment
