I'm considering using minoxidil as a topical but am unsure which brand to use or even if it's a good idea. I still pretty much have all of my hair so i'm worried that if i start minoxidil it will make things worse. My main worry is about dependancy and if hair that is going to do well in the long run will crap out from the minoxidil. Does anyone have any imput on this ? thanks.

hey if you still have a lot of hair you should hold up on using minoxidil. If your maintaining with fluridil keep with it. Once you start minoxidil there is no going back....

yeah, you have the point that most concerns me. However, since shaving my head you can see that the top is a slightly lighter shade than the sides. I would like to start using something that will give me some regrowth/ thickening.

That is a complete misconception about minoxidil. Once you start any treatment there is no going back. If your hair is going, it's going. Minoxidil is not gonna make it worse. If you stop using it after a period of time it is true you may shed, but things will rebound. It is not destroying your hair.

Big freakin deal :freaked: you put it on once a day. I think it takes all of 3 minutes.

The problem is when it fizzles out after about 5yrs thats it. So the later you start it the better.

I really don't think there is a time frame for minoxidil. I have heard people say that they have used it for over 10 years and are still maintaining. I think Dr. Lee says that he has been on it for over 20 years with decent results. I think the same can be said for any product including propecia. I mean how many people say that propecia has lost its effect to stop hairloss over 'x' number of years. The only thing to do is to get on the most proven products as soon as possible and ride it out. There is no way to know how long it will be effective. It is important to note also that there are many ups and downs with using these products. One day your hair may look great and then the next week it may look like crap. People on these sites freak out on the day their hair looks bad instead of riding it out. Most of them do ride it out and then 2 weeks later you will hear that very same person come on these sites and say that their hair has never looked better. It is all about faceing the ups and downs.

Bryan,

....................and he has 1400-something posts too.

It just kills me to see guys who have been members of forums for less than a damn year, not even six months, have hundreds upon hundreds of posts. In many cases, just repeating fallacious assertions and seemingly never learning anything.

I do this because I want men to know the TRUTH about hair, so they dont get screwed up and wind up in a wig, or with surgery they are not a candidate for, or set up unreal expectations, or waste money on snake oil. Yet some seem determined to not even demand any proof of even WHY a indication might be effective. Its amazing, Dave001 was right when he stated so many posts are "more religious in nature" than scientific.
