Hello- I have been reading this site for a few months now, I am so grateful to have a place to turn when I feel so isolated. I am a 37 year old woman. I started noticing hair loss about 5 years ago. I finally went to a dermatologist who put me on propecia/finasteride 2.5mg.and minoxidi 5% 1x daily. I have been on it for 3 months and my hair is so thin now I have to wear a hat(before it was ok, just thin looking) I am so upset, I don't know whether to stop taking it or plug on. It is so bad on the top and my hairline is receding. I cry every time I get into the car and see my gleaming scalp in the rearview mirror. Anyway, I am waiting for more test results. Some test results I have were high DHEA and low testosterone (17) I really hope the propecia isn't working against me because of that. Anyone else out there on propecia with low testosterone? I really need to know whether to keep taking it. Thanks so much for anyones replies!

I'm not so sure I'd turn to hair transplants just yet. I would get another doctor's opinion. I'm not sure why this doctor told you to take those drugs, but the company that produces Propecia states that it is for men only. The 5% concentration of minoxidil is also supposed to be for men only as well. I'm not saying these treatments are automatically wrong. After all, I'm not a dermatologist. I just think those treatments seem a little concerning, especially since the Propecia dose for men is 1mg a day. Just because s/he is a doctor does not automatically make him/her trustworthy. Does hairloss run in your family? There may be other options you haven't even thought of. I'd check with another dematologist, just to be sure. For what it's worth, you're not alone. Good luck.
