hey all. I'm 25 years old and am really starting to notice that my hair is receeding pretty badly.

my fathers side doesnt have much hair, my mothers side isnt too bad.

I'm interested in propecia. I don't know too much about it othere than what i've read from their website.. not really testimonials etc... side effects etc...

was wondering if this is the best soloution to stop hair loss. I'd say my hair loss is moderate. and most people dont even notice.. but I can. it's getting further back every month..

also... what insurance companies pay out for these treatments if any.. I have united healthcare if that makes a difference..

If not what is the cost of this drug.??

First off jeffsss, welcome to the board!

Asking us to recommend one treatment above another is really relative as there is not a proven treatment out there that will work for everyone. So, I wish that I could say this or that one would be guaranteed to work for you but due to so many variables, I or anyone here, just can't do that.

You no doubt have heard about the "Big Three". There's also other treatments that many have found helpful and effective for them as well.

any ideas if insurance covers any of these...

thanks for the warm welcome.. hopefully i can get this hair thing under control before i lose it all.

And Nizoral shampoo.

Helps with inflammation and contains ketoconazole said to have a mild antiandrogenic effect that could lead to thickening.

Welcome on board.

More than likely your insurance won't cover any of it. If a doctor prescribes Finasteride for hairloss, your insurance company will consider it a cosmetic drug. I had union-funded medical insurance, and I got the shaft.

But there is hope. Minoxidil is relatively cheap... about 5 dollars a bottle if you shop right. And generic finasteride can be cheap as well.

But when you shop for prescription medicines "illegally", you run the risk of getting less, and in in some cases, MORE than what you paid for. Cipla is a generic producer of finasteride, and they are legitimate. But you still have no idea. My recommendation is to buy only Merck brand finasteride. Proscar is your best bet. Cheaper, and you get more per pill.

And nizoral is available in any drug store.

Gel or wax or elephant spunk or whatever won't cause hair thinning. Fucktard above is just on a "post the same thing a million times over because I think it's cool" stint.. so don't mind him. If your hair is thinning, there's a problem UNDER the skin. The exposed hair is already dead.
