Nizoral CAUSES Dandruff?

Hey guys,

I have been reading through this site for months now and it has been great. I been taking finasteride 1 mg a day for 10 months, and after reading the new article about nizoral, I attempted to start nizoral up again. You may wonder why I stopped...

Well, when I was using nizoral, approximately the day after using it (leaving it in for 5 minutes and such), it would appear that I actually had more flakes in my hair. I am not sure I would actually call it dandruff; most of the white things were basically the bulbs of hairs that had fallen out. Basically the fallen hairs are suspended upside down in my hair, with the white bulb sticking out.

So, I tried to start using it again, and after the first use, the same thing happened (with no evidence of dandruff previously). There was even flakes on my shoulders. I am not sure what the deal is. I want to continue using nizoral based on what I read, but it seems like it is making things worse. Anyone else have a similar experience? Any ideas on what I should do?

You might try T/Gel or T/Sal on the days you don't use Nizoral.

For baldness, 2% Nizoral shampoo should be used, not the 1% store-bought version. Nizoral shouldn't be used every day, rather every other day or 3x/week. Try to leave it on your scalp for 10 minutes. On off days, use a shampoo that will add some moisture and conditioning to your hair.

2% Nizoral by itself is not very effective. It should be combined with 5% minoxidil, 5% azelaic acid, and 5% spironolactone cream.

Stop the nizoral immediately. I had the same response and actually lost hair along my hairline within two weeks of starting the nizoral. And this happened when I was using nizoral 2x per week. The nizoral, both 2% and 1%, can be too harsh for some people, and actually worsen seb derm.

I came across this study as well and it's not a well done study. I've found Nizoral to give me an itchy scalp due to it drying my scalp and hair. I know my experience is anecdotal but a dry scalp and dry hair is a bad combo.
Bro this post is from 2004 lol
