Nizoral making me bald faster?!

I started using Nizoral as a standalone treatment about five weeks ago - twice a week initially, now down to once as per the instructions. However, I've noticed that not only does my hair look a bit wispy and lifeless...it's seemingly making hairs miniaturize faster! I have no idea how this is possible, or if it's just an initial shed or whatever...but I have definitely lost a half inch on both sides of my hairline and some density in my crown.

Both sides from five weeks ago:

And today:

Has anyone seen anything like this before? Should I immediately stop using it before it gets even worse? I'm starting Minoxidil foam soon and I don't want to lose even more ground before it gets going. I'm going to be royally pissed if this has managed to dig me deeper from just five weeks - and I haven't even been overusing it! I want to keep using it to see if it's just a shed, but if it's not...I could completely destroy what I have left.

Nizoral 1% is an imperative part of hair loss treatment. It does not cause hair loss.

That is not necessarily due to Nizoral... you really have no way of knowing for sure. I also see no difference in the pics to be honest.

And yet another post of mine was deleted. All I said was that it's possible it COULD "cause" hair loss..if one were allergic to something in it or __________. Or that it's possible it's just not helping and he's slowly losing ground.

Your actual words were: "for some it may actually "cause" hair loss".

This is a false statement, outside of very rare, improbable circumstances.

If someone has a Nizoral allergy, they will know it. Its not some mystery that evolves over many months.

Anyone could be allergic to anything. Including the products you promote.

Yet you don't say "they could cause hair loss". I'm not comfortable scaring people based on a 0.0000001% incidence.

Nizoral doesn't cause hair loss, and any implication that it does (aside from some possible transient reactive shedding) is false.

^^Does the 1% help you? It didn't even touch my hair loss. I absolutely must use the 2%. And I have to leave it on and let it sit for quite a while for that to even work.

No, it is not a false statement, as you even acknowledge- "outside of very rare, improbably circumstances", which is only your opinion as well. On the other thread on this someone else also pointed out that he recalls testimonials negative to nizoral as well. I don't think HIS post was deleted.

Second post here: http://www.gourmetstylewellness.com/interact/showthread.php/68059-Nizoral-making-me-bald-faster-!?

I've always been skeptical of nizoral. Some people say it alone has stopped their hairloss where there are other people that have stories such as yours.

Join the club. Same thing happened to me, however to be honest, I was using it everyday for four months. My hair thinned significantly after this time. I stopped Nizoral completely for several months after that and my hair started to thicken up again. Then a couple months later my hair started to thin again. Now, I use Nizoral once or twice a week and this works out fairly well for me. For the other five or six days, I do not use shampoo or even get my hair wet in the shower. I usually just spray some dry shampoo on my scalp and rub it in.

don't you mean 2%?

using nizoral every day is not a good idea IMO - it's a powerful antifungal, the instructions very clearly state do not use more often than directed. Granted that's for dandruff, not male pattern baldness, but I'd still be careful with it.

Been using Nizoral for 8-9 months now, hasn't really helped anything hair wise. It did get rid of my scalp itch for good, however my scalp now feels dry and I've also noticed that my hairline is getting worse on the same side I was applying nizoral to.

No 1%. I can't comment on 2%. But i was stating that 1% is safe and extremely important in a regimen. Wanted to point out that 1% is safe as this thread may not be clear to newcomers.

I dont know why anyone bothers with 1% unless their inflammation and itch don't respond to 1%. Everyone thinks "more is better" so they ignore 1% ... go right to 2% ... and some even leave it on for hours.

Bad judgment calls.

I was using Nizorelle 1% for years and it was fine for me. 1% seems to have been discontinued in the UK as I can't find it anywhere, so I switched to Nizoral 2% which I use once a week and have had no problems with. If I could still obtain 1% I probably would go back to using that though.

I also use Revita which has keto in, presumably of a less strength than Nizoral, I'm not sure.

They no longer do the 1% in Europe, in fact they don't state the percentage in my country.

Why is Nizoral so important for a hair-loss regime? Could someone please elaborate why.

There is at least one study showing that using ketoconazol along finasteride give better results than using finasteride alone. There is also one study where ketoconazol was used alone, and it proved to aid to the quality of hair on those who suffer from male pattern baldness. It also decreased shed. But the thing is, nobody knows for sure how it works. It is know that ketoconazol is an anti-androgenic agent, so, some say it works through inhibiting androgens to a very little extent. But some others say that ketoconazol as an anti-androgenic agent is completely useless unless you take it orally in large doses (which can be dangerous). So, other people say it works no by it's anti-androgenic properties, but because it has an anti-inflammatory action.

I've heard they will continue production of Nizoral (1% keto) in June 2013. Can't wait.

To chime in here, those who do not find 1% and have to start 2% one; and much rather keep the same 1% formula; you would simply use the amount of 2% half of what you were using for 1% and dilute it with few drops of water before applying it as usual, each time.

It is a side affect of Nizoral %2 is that the streangth you have . I guess the %1 can also do that.

Yes you can use smaller amount of 2% keto but it will be still 2% no matter of the amount you use.
