There's a study showing them to be about equally effective for their hair loss benefits

Stuff is harsh and will screw up your hair texture, so make sure you use a good conditioner after you rinse it out

2-3x week should be fine. I usually use it 1 day on, then 2 days off. It's really harsh stuff

Massage on scalp and leave on for 5-10 minutes. Rinse out, then put conditioner in your hair for 3-4 minutes

There's a shampoo called Hair Surge that I recently purchased and I've been rotating in with my Nizoral shampoo every other day. It has a small amount of ketoconazole (.2%) but it also contains Saw Palmetto (natural DHT blocker) and caffeine. It works pretty well but the downside is that it costs $60 for a bottle that will only last a maximum of 2 months. I bought it because the Nizoral shampoo seemed to be making my scalp really dry and since I started using it that has mostly subsided. As far as I've been told by my dermatologist the benefits to stopping hair loss are about the same with the 1% and 2% ketoconazole shampoos but the 1% is considerably cheaper, doesn't require a prescription, and has fewer side effects than the 2%.
