Hey,

I am assuming that most people are using the shampoo rather than the cream version, so I thought I add a poll to make it more interesting.

Would the cream be more effective? i.e. being in contact with skin longer etc.

Although I have read many times before the shampoo is effective for several days. So would adding the cream along with the shampoo be more beneficial?

I live in the UK and the cream is only available by prescription whereas the shampoo is available in most stores. Are limitations as such affecting other people from trying out the cream version?

(Just to note I used 'Nizoral' as its a popular brand altough cheaper brands are also available containing the antifungal drug ketoconazole...so if you are using other brands it would be good to hear from you too.)

Interesting...

I'm thinking of adding the cream. What I'd like to know is when do you apply it. I'm thinking before minoxidil would be bad say a few hours later on a dry scalp might not be too effective.

Used 2% nizoral cream for about 7 or so months. Nothing, nadda. But the shampoo at least makes my hair look good, and it might have helped slow down the loss. If I had to do it again though, I would try to find Nizoral in a gel based form, as it absorbs much better in the skin than cream.

So my vote goes for the shampoo.

I came across a study on Nizoral cream/lotion thanks to a blog by the user ‘azyx’ from this forum. A very informative blog ‘azyx’ and so a very good read (in his regimen he add 20ml olive oil to 100ml generic Ketoconazole shampoo using it every other day to prevent dryness of hair and from what I understood is also applying ketoconazole 1% lotion now too).

Here is the link to study: http://www.keepingmyhair.com/japanese-study-nizoral-cream-ie-ketoconazole

Some more researching from Wikipedia on Ketoconazole found it has a half life of 2-8 hours. It is also prescribed in oral, foam, gel and shampoo form. I should have had more options on the poll!

I have been thinking of it for a while too...applying it during the morning would be best for me as I usually apply minoxidil nightly. The only issue I see with that is it may make skin more sensitive if your applying minoxidil as well (a bit like when some people apply minoxidil to damp hair). Many may see this as positive though so long as it doesn’t increase any side effects.

It was good hearing from you since you don't seem to use any other topical treatments (from reading your regimen) so can rule out beneficial results from other topical treatments.

May I ask where and how many times you applied the cream?

No, I was not on any other topical treatments then, only Saw Palmetto and Beta-sis. This was back when I was terrified of the "big three" and was experimenting with anything else under the sun.

I applied once daily, at night always, because it was incredibly messy stuff. Normally I would have to add a little water to thin out the cream enough so I could apply it all over my scalp. Oh, and it dries stiff like hairspray.
