You apply a very small amount on the plam of your hand and then massage it into very wet hair until it begins to lather, you must make sure you massage into your scalp. You may want give it a quick wash with another shampoo first though (as Nizoral can be quite hard to lather)

You then leave it on your scalp for 3-5 minutes and then you wash it all out which may take a while.

Could I benefit more from using a stronger type of nizoral? Or are there any side effects from using a stronger form of it? Right now I'm using the 1% and I don't really know wether it's working or not.

It does take a while for it to work, you haven't really told me what you are using it for anyway... dandruff? Oily scalp?

But I started straight with the 2%, but I don't think there is much differnece IMO.

Ketoconazole definitely helps with hair loss. No doubt about it.

One study shows that nizoral shampoo with 2% ketoconazole is about just as effective as 2% minoxidil. So it definitely helps since it works in a very different way than minoxidil. So this shampoo is definitely something you want in your regimen.

I don't think however that it is a good idea to use it as your only defense. Finasteride and minoxidil should also be added if you are serious about preventing further hair loss or maintenance. Though I guess nizoral has showed to be able to cause growth on it's own.

How are these shampoo's meant to work? It just seems a bit strange that a shampoo can help hair loss - surely the problem stems from genes 99% of the time so how would a shampoo impact it? I'm not being negative, just curious

Ketoconazole (the active ingredient in Nizoral shampoo) has been shown to block androgen receptors, so it's possible that Nizoral helps fight male pattern baldness through its antiandrogenic properties. That's just speculation, of course, but it seems reasonable to me.

nizoral can help increase hair counts and hair thickening, but it can't be used alone as a single treatment to stop balding/ reverse it! i use 2% nizoral and i a generally pleased of it even if i have no idea how much impact it has on my hair. if you want 1% ketoconazole shampoo you can also use revita shampoo which has 1% ketoconazole but it includes other good stuff too. i use it too about once up to twice a week.
