A bottle of Nizoral will last at least three months, making it ~$4/month.

Yes definetly. What you should do is first quickly wash your hair with any regular shampoo just to get the scalp nice and clean, then apply the nizoral and let it sit in your scalp for 5 minutes. This way your getting the full benifit of the medication on a clean scalp.

It doesnt say one time a week on the nizoral .. it says every 3 days or something like that .. so 3 days a week is fine and easier to keep track of what day to use the nizoral.

Use Nizoral when the day has a 'N' in it.

Except at the weekends when you swap this rule around.

So....

mon - tue - wed - thur - fri - sat - sun

Do this initial 'quick wash' with T/Sal (T/Gel with salicyclic acid).

Translation:
Ketoconazole = Nizoral shampoo
Salicylic acid = T/Sal shampoo (T/Gel with Salcylic Acid in the UK)

Quote from Dr Lee website: Ketoconazole has been proven to decrease the quantities of DHT in the scalp by helping to inhibit its synthesis from sterols.  Salicylic acid has a keratolytic and a slight antiseptic action when applied topically to the skin.  By removing some of the dead epidermal layers of the stratum corneum, there is an enhanced action by the ketoconazole in suppressing the production of DHT in the scalp.

so in theory by using the T/Gel right before i use nizoral it enhances the results of Nizoral?

And i use nizoral. Mon , Wed , Frid . every week .. anyone else do this?

Nizoral contains a mild anti-androgen, put simply it helps stop DHT killing your hair.

It does not 'make hair grow'

Although if you stop or hinder the balding process, hair counts will increase, but this is the hairs natural growth being allowed to continue, not a result of ketoconazole (the good stuff in Nizoral) encouraging regrowth.

Yes Nizoral is a shampoo, and minoxidil (Rogaine) is a blood pressure medication. But that does not mean they will not influence hair growth.

Nizoral and minoxidil work in two very different ways, they can both help in improving hair counts and condition.

The effects of shampoos like pantene are 'cosmetic', they plump up the hair shaft, they do nothing to counter male pattern baldness, Nizoral is a medicated shampoo that actually helps a little in the fight against male pattern baldness and improves the hair shaft thickness and haircount.

The effects of Nizoral on your hair are said to be similar to 2% minoxidil (rogaine)

In theory, yes, but there is no data to back this up and you may have to drink several litres a day to gain little if any benefit.

What are the consequences of using Nizoral more often than three times per week? Say, five times per week. I assume the directions to use only thrice per week are there for a reason. Anyone know what it is?

Yes, this is the basic formula of Dr Lee's regrowth shampoo, salicylic acid and ketoconazole. (T/Sal+NIzoral) I even think seperate applications would be superior to Dr Lee's formula as the T/Sal would be rinsed away before the Nizoral is applied.

Yes, me.

See how your scalp gets on with all this, we are all different, for me the first few weeks I was 'cornflake sized dandruff boy'

But with continued use my scalp settled and now I never (and I mean 100% never ever) get an itchy, irriatated or red scalp.

Experiment, find what works for you, give it time.

Ketoconazole (the active ingredient in Nizoral) remains in your scalp for a couple of days or so, this means there is little to gain by daily use.

There is also the theoretical harming of your scalps natural flora (the good bacteria) that keeps your scalp healty.

But we are all different, some people cannot tolerate that stuff once a month, some can drink 2 bottle a day and come up smilling.

Check this sh*t out. Ketoconazole and miconazole are very similar and are in the same family of mild insecticide chemicals hence its use is limited to 2% . I use an anti fungal cream by reli on with miconazole called "antifungal skin treatment" which does a great job just like ketoconazole for lessening dandruff and quite possably helping hair loss. I've added a little to my herbal spray.

So, ketoanalconahole is an insecticide? Not a big worry.

PPG, found in minoxidil, is used in car anti-freeze and is also used to de-ice aircraft at the airport.

Its pitched to the public as a antifungal and so there has not been any research into its effect on hair but I would say there was a good chance it has very similar effect.

They belong to a family of chemicals classified as insecticide effective and in some cases has been used as such.
