Nizoral?

just a quick post about the original subject before this thread is hijacked. i've used nizoral for a long time due to the recommendation of a friend of mine who is a physician (allthough not one with training in hair loss treatment--he's in a completely different field. it was just a 'shoot the sh*t' conversation, so to speak).

my understanding of its mechanism is that it has some anti-androgenic effects. i do know that ketoconazole (which is the active ingredient in nizoral) is both an anti-fungal (which is what nizoral is usually marketed as) and an anti-androgen.

however, my understanding is that its anti-androgenic effects are from its action on the adrenals, so this wouldn't explain its effect on hair.

this does not mean it doesn't help with hair loss. so i continue to use it--placebo or not. i am also going to start using minoxidil as well soon, as my hair has begin to start thinning in back (a revelation i was embarrassed to find out while receiving a haircut today). i come from a family of baldies, so i will try whatever to stop this loss.

as greg fitzgerald says, growing older is great. i have the graceful balding patterns of old age while still retaining my youthful acne. : /
