Nizoral

So, I just bought some 2% Nizoral - but I read on here someone saying their dermatologist had said it can actually make hair loss worse. Has anyone got comments on this and why it may be true?

Also, if it can only be used a couple of times a week - if it does have anti-androgenic properties, then surely using it this infrequently isn't going to really touch the DHT which is constantly attacking the hair? So, how is it supposed to work?

I'm not using finasteride because of worries over side effects and long term damage so for now am just using Minoxidil - how should i use Nizoral and realistically can it do any good?

nizoral by itself won't do you much good. It's best used to give finasteride/minoxidil a good place to grow. It might slow your loss a little, but I promise you that you will still go bald quickly if you're balding and relying on it to keep your hair.

finasteride's really not that bad. 3+ years, no sides, maintained about 90% of my hair. I lost more hair in the 6 months leading up to finasteride than I did in the last 3 years on it.

Congratulations for basically being a tw*t. As I've said before, if i want to ask the opinions of people CURRENTLY using this then I will. Apparently, forums are for discussion, they would not survive without it, and if topics reoccur then that is the nature of them.

cheers. I'd still rather avoid finasteride at least for now.

Do you know why some dermatologists say that nizoral can actually make hair loss worse?

I've found recently that this forum isn't for expressing thoughts and opinions. No, it seems to be a place where numpty know it alls unofficially police the forum ridiculing and patronising posters who dare deviate away from their own beliefs, views and opinions.

Shame, I sued to enjoy coming on here, giving and receiving support to & from others in a similar situation but I'm starting to lose interest in the forum.

jd_uk,

I've been using Nizoral 2% for about a year and a half.. While I cant speak for others, I can only tell you of my own personal experience. My hair loss/shedding whatever you want to call it has decreased dramatically when Nizoral is used, and the results are even better when I use it more frequently( I use it twice a day, yes TWICE a day with no side effects). There was a period for about a month when I was off it and I noticed my hair loss accelerating. When i got back on it, within about 2 weeks I saw a differnce. For me, Nizoral is a MUST have in battling hair loss.

Nice. I thought I am the only one that is using nizoral 2% twice a day. I think that is the way you need to use it to be effective. 2-3 times a week is the recommended dosage for battling fungus/dandruff which this medication is made for. But if you want to use it for its antiandrogenic properties you need to use it at least once everyday.

Yeah, I had posted on here a few weeks ago about any potential side effects of using it on a daily basis, and didn't hear back from anyone. So finally, I decided to call the 800 number on the box to speak with Nizoral directly. They told me the only side effect would be scalp irritation. So far, I haven't experienced that, although I've heard of some people complaining the the 2% was too strong for them causing their scalp to burn, so they had to use the 1% instead.

It certainly felt like it wasn't helping when I used it. I have hair that is naturally quite fine and dry, and after using Nizoral it just felt frazzled and damaged. I don't miss it.

You should also know that it's talking about oral Nizoral, which is much MUCH different than the small amount of Ketoconazole that's actually in the shampoo.

Did you know that Coke zero is banned in Venezulea? Pretty sure a majority of the world is still drinking it.
