I infer you want to know who is having "good results" from using Nizoral? How is that an answerable question without context?

Clarify please

Sorry to sound so dumb, but I am just getting in to all this.
I went to the Doctor and got Propecia perscription today.
Now I am reading I also need Rogain and Nizoral.

I know rogaine is over the counter, what about Nizoral ?
Is the 1% and 2% avail over the counter somewhere ?
Where is the cheapest place to buy these ? URL ?

I hope I don't have to go back to the Doctor to get another perscription for Nizoral, but will do whatever is needed, so let me know.

1% Nizora is all you need. This is OTC and is cheap about 10 bucks a bottle. Any drug store should have it.

And buy generic minoxidil vs. Rogaine. Much cheaper.

Good luck

1% Nizora

I thought Nizmeister was kinda cute, but a spelling problem is much more of an issue. :)

Hello, I'm a newbie. I just want to thank everybody on this board for posting such a welath of information. I have a couple questions regarding Nizoral. I'll give you some background first (I apoligize if it's too long).

I'm 34. I noticed I started thinning out in the temples about 1 year ago. Now I'm noticing it in the vertex or crown or whatever it's called (same thing?), and possibly on top-middle. I actually started using Nexxus Vitatess shampoo about 7-8 years ago (I don't see this brand discussed too much on hairloss boards) as I was losing some hair in front (the middle, not my temples) and hairloss runs in some of my family. I used Nexxus because this was the only product I was aware of during this time. It's possible if I did not use it my hair would be worse by now. After one year of using Nexxus during that time, my front-middle hairline was better than it had ever been (and its still great). When I started losing hair in the temples, I started using Nexxus Vitatress Biotin Creme, and I had some small hairs regrow.

Now that I'm losing hair in different areas, and after I became more educated to the different products, I'm going to become a little more aggressive and use different products. I just ordered Revivogen (the scalp treatment and the shampoo) and it should come in the mail sometime next week. I've also been taking 320 mg/day of saw palmetto, a multivitamin, and a zinc supplement (45 mg/day of zinc if combined with the zinc in the multivatimin), along with an ester-C supplement if that matters. I've been drinking green tea. I've been doing saw palmetto and green tea for about a week now. Don't know if it will help but it's worth a try. I may start using Minoxidil at some point, but I don't want to use too much different stuff just yet. I want to give Revivogen a chance first. I know Propecia may be effective, but I want to use that as a last resort (I'm weary of taking internal perscriptions that may have negative side effects, short and long term).

I just bought Nizoral today (1% over the counter). Now I know you are supposed to use it 2-3 times per week (I may use it just twice a week). My questions are:

1) Can I use another shampoo (say Revivogen shampoo) during the same shower after I use the Nizoral, even on the same day, just later in the day? Or should Nuzoral be the only shampoo I use that day?

2) On the Nizoral box it says to use it for up to 8 weeks or as directed by a doctor and after that time to use it only as needed to control dandruff. Is Nizoral safe to use long term beyond 8 weeks?

3) Another question unrelated to Nizoral - what do you guys think of demodex causing hairloss?

Use Nizoral every third day and don't use anything else for shampoo that day. Lather and leave on for 5 minutes and rinse.

You can use Nizoral as long as you like. I have been using it for over a year, no issues at all.

The demodex theory of hair loss has been disproven in several research studies. Don't buy it.

The proven products are as you already know, are finasteride, minoxidil and nizoral. If you are not using these, you are gambling with your hair and may not be able to re-grow it.

Proceed with caution and good luck.

Bruce Lee, thanks for the response. Can i use the Revivogen scalp therapy and the minoxidil (if I choose to buy the monixidil) on the same day as the Nizoral? Thanks.

I read that Nizoral reduces testosterone production and other androgens by the adrenal galnd and by sex organs. I guess I can assume that it does not just limit testosterone to the scalp, but systmically as well. I did not realize it could effect overall testosterone levels in the body (if this is the case). Testosterone is not only needed for a sex drive, but I believe it also plays a function in keeping cholesterol levels low and maintianing muscle (?). Any thoughts?

Hi,

I can't leave 1% Nizoral in 5 minutes because it burns my scalp and then I have to stop most and/or all treatment for several days. I can wash with it I just can't leave it in. I told Dr. Lee about this and he told me to stop using Nizoral as it does very little, which is what he also told me about Retin-A varieties of minoxidil.

Please note that I also had other products burn my scalp when I first started treatment and now I have no problems so maybe my scalp just needs a gradual buildup to theraputic levels in order adjust to treatment for some reason.

Anybody get their scalp burned by Nizoral or have any thoughts on the matter?

Thanks! :)

I would suggest the following:

Wash and rise with TSAL>

Then use Nizoral and leave on for a half a minute.

Each time you use Nizoral (every third day) leave on for another 30 seconds.

If you develope burning at any step in the way, back down the time to the last time you were OK with.

This gradual approach may work very well. Keep in mind that 5 minutes is pretty arbitrary so you may get all benefit you need with less time.

Good luck.
