No Family History Of Diffuse Thinning, No male pattern baldness Before The Age Of 35

Maternal side of my family is completely fine, almost all of my uncles are NW1, my grandfather was even a NW1. On my dad's side my uncles have thinning at the crown, but no diffuse thinning or anything like that.

That being said, I believe I'm suffering from diffuse thinning. Is this possible? It's nowhere in my family history. I mean, I can't tell for sure yet, there's no scalp noticeable or anything, but I'm losing a lot of hairs and my hair is definitely getting thinner (from what I can feel, or perhaps it's just me being paranoid).

I mean, I could say it's bad diet - I literally go days where I eat nothing but one meal, and that's usually something bad, like pizza. The thing is, it's come out of literally nowhere too.

I'm gonna get on finasteride in about a month, hoping it doesn't get too bad by then. However, I just wanted to go back to the question, is diffuse thinning possible without any family history of diffuse thinning, and recession only on my dad's side? (None of my uncles had any real recession before 30).

There could be diffuse thinning in your family its just not being expressed. People who are immune to male pattern baldness have a balding pattern too but because of good hair genes it is never expressed. Some of the men on your mothers side may very well have the diffuse thinning pattern but due to their genes you will never see it, until now in you.

Figured as much, guess I really didn't hit the genetic lottery lool.

If there's no diffuse thinning in your family history at any age then it is unlikely you would have diffuse thinning at an early age. You mention you go for days without eating anything but one pizza. That sounds very unhealthy and could be a factor that can cause thinning hair. In this case though, the hair thinning is temporary and is not male pattern baldness-related, and it will return to normal if or when your nutrition improves. I think you should make completely sure you have diffuse pattern male pattern baldness before making the decision to get on finasteride. It is common for a guy to be convinced he's balding or thinning when he isn't, often due to OCD, paranoia, BDD, or just being overly anxious about his appearance. Diffuse thinning is difficult to self-diagnose in the early stages. I recommend you see a dermatologist to get a professional diagnosis.

Somtimes hair loss can occur due to genetic mutations even if there is no concern of hairloss in your family, its just a game of luck
