Norwood 5 points out my baldness, embarresses me in public

I am a Norwood 3.5 / 4. I was at work when a norwood 5 inmate yells loudly down the hall describing me,that I am "the tall guy with the BIG bald spot on the back of his head." He then told others that I have a receeding hairline. Now this guys hair loss is worse then mine. I don't understand why I would be attacked by him of all people.

Was this just a case of an inmate being an inmate? Or have you recieved bad comments from balding men. I thought we were suppose to be on the same team. I would never put down or point out a balding head and yell it so all can hear.

I work in a prison obviously.

I find that very bald men, like NW5 and above, who are showing a real horseshoe shape, tend to stare intently at other people's hairlines, and kinda let out a little grin when they notice a fellow balding person. I have a friend who is NW3 and I remember at least twice at the movies, waiting in line like 20 minutes for tickets, there was an NW6 each time(one shaved, one grown out) kinda grinning at my friend as if to say , "one of us, you know what's coming". Really creepy.

Yep. This is not to say that every one does it, not at all. I've just noticed a trend- P.S. it seems to be only the younger late-stage Norwoods who do this. Guys who are 45 and older really don't care enough to bother. Most of them have families and kids by that time.

If you work in a prison and thats the worst abuse you've gotten then think yourself lucky.
It just depends some guys are bitter about it and hate to see someone in a better position than them.

No. But my shaved NW7 uncle is the only one to agree with me that I'm thinning.

My buddy who is clearly balding always tries to tell me that my hairline receeded further and my hair on the top got even worse.

He is a good guy and all that, but I just really hate to let him put me down like that, his hair is ALOT worse than mine, and I never commented on it, not even once.

thing is, to most balding guys, this is not an "attack" or insult. it's just a joke. most guys, accept balding, deal with it and move on. cracking a few jokes about on the way.

...yeah, if it's an inmate then you can expect anything from baldness comments and ridicule to death threats and sexual advances. How long have you worked in a prison? Obviously not too long then?

Whether they're bald or not, or even hideously disfigured, they'll find something to call you out on - it's a substitute for showing respect to you; you could almost feel privileged *lol*

we ARE all on the same team. Some of us are just grizzled veterans, while others are rookies. Us guys that have been losing our hair for over a decade need to keep things in check to make sure the team chemistry runs smoothly. It's like Shaquille O'neal keeping Dwayne Wade in line. A loser at life inmate is one thing, but remember.... most people that make those jokes AREN:T trying to be hurtful. Also, the first few cracks are really hard to take. I remember some of them totally ruining my day/week. The more you get, and the more comfortable you become with the way you look, the less these comments affect you. Think about it...wouldn;t it be a much better, relaxed life if you were bald, and DIDNT let it bug you? Strive for that. (hands in the middle) GOooooooooo TEAM!!!!!!!!

I totally agree with you. That friend of mine is totally against treatment, he thinks his NW2.5 diffusive thinning is completely normal.

I didn't comment back. Just completly ignored the comment. I am not use to hearing this about my hair, so I was shocked.
