so been on finasteride for over 6 months now (0.5mg) and last month or so on caffeine shampoo and multi vits too

started with thick head of hair pretty much all over, bit of a receding hairline which was thick but bearable and thinning a bit at temples but wasnt too bad, not compared to where i am at now...

back and sides, real thin, crown and mid scalp, real thin, hairline seems to be moving back noticeably by the day, seems like ive lost a lot of ground in the last 6 months, more noticeably so in the last 3, and the last month just seems like my hair is getting thinner and thinner and very rapidly.

i know its early days, 6 months is a time where some see results but i know it can take longer etc, but never thought it would get this bad!

just want to hear some advice, experiences of people on finasteride who may have gone through such a situation and what not

thanks

im just really concerned about the thinning sides and back as that really shouldnt be an area that is affected right?

hiya mate.

finasteride shouldnt make your go backwards, its VERY rare, what may be happening is your sheading weak hairs. although 6 months in and sides and back seem a little strange.

Id say MOST DEFFO dont stop using it, or you will have no chance to recover, if you are somehow going backwards, well then ur pretty screwed, its worth the chance to stick on it and ride it out.

thanks, well yer i think your right, the shedding of the weak hairs needs to happen, just guess i assumed that would have been over by now. back and sides, who f*****g knows whats going on there, might be the same deal just seems weird really.

have noticed a few small very dark (almost black) hairs in and around the hairline, so guess that is a good sign, just wanting the density to come back there which is what ive lost a lot of since being on finasteride, ind of the most frustarting thing about this journey!

This could be inflammation. Finasteride works slowly, and even though a reduction in dht eventually will remove the microinflammation of the dermal papilla, this could take longer than 6 months. Are your scalp red? does it produce a lot of sebum?

Try adding an anti- fungal shampoo like nizoral or any shampoo with zpt, or maybe some aloe vera, to your regimen.

just curious are you taking genuine finasteride (propecia/proscar) or online generics? 6 months seems like a long time to still be shedding.

I've been taking finasteride everyday for the last 14 years and I don't remember any shedding. Anyway, 6 months is still too early to quit. Keep taking it for at least a year.

ive been using online generics, forgotten the name of the place i got it, but think i may get some more from inhousepharmacy?

gonna get back on nizoral this week for sure and have been using aloe vera on hairline when it gets inflamed

i know 6 months is a short time for all this and i do plan to stick with it for much longer, i guess its just since the summer ive noticed a more rapid decline in the state of my hair; my hairline def seems thinner and higher than before and generally my hair is thinner al over

but as people keep saying it could be to make way for new stornger hairs, time will tell

went to doctors about Telogen Effluvium, had bloods done but came back clean so ruled that out i guess
