Not Sure?

Right I have been convincing myself for the last 6 months that maybe the meds I have been on had thinned my hair. I have taken heaps of photos and it didn't seem too bad so I kept delaying.

Decided today to get a grip and took some photos outside in direct sunlight. That was a very awakening experience. I didn't realise how bad it was. I have now booked into the dermatologist.

So my advice to those who are deliberating - Take some photos outisde. It's pretty good motivation.

You need to give minoxidil more time to work. And maybe start Propecia.

How is your applying schedule and are you sticking to it?

I would be interested to see your results on Propecia as well.

Right, went and saw the Doctor and had something confirmed that I thought might be a cause. I tested positive for the HAL-B27 gene a few years ago when I was having back problems, found out to be ankylosing spondylitis (auto immune system disorder). Because of this it is possible that my immune system may be triggering my hair loss. So pretty much my body doesn't like my hair any more. Bad genes mean I am screwed.

I am awaiting further blood tests for antibodies and thyroid etc...

As to the regimen, I have only been going two weeks so a long way to go yet. I will update my regimen when I get my results.

I wish you the best of luck on your bloodtests, and hopefully your hairloss is treatable.

Propecia aint gonna help you at all. minoxidil could though.

I don't believe Propecia treats that HAL-B27 gene, that you spoke of in the aforementioned.

You must be diagnosed with male pattern baldness before beginning treatment on Propecia.

I'm pretty sure you can't treat the gene. More than likely it cues an immune system response that triggers male pattern baldness. I have receeding temples and am thinning through the top. Will find some pics.

That's an excellent question: Whether or not to use Propecia for treating your condition.

I don't know... I wonder if there's harm in taking Propecia if it's not specifically for male pattern baldness...

How old are you? If your hairline receded a little it could be your mature hairline forming. Some people get this new hairline but never bald beyond it. BUT you are also thinning on top you said? If you are thinning due to something other than male pattern baldness you would be losing hair all over - front, back, sides, top. Sometimes its hard to notice hairloss on the sides and back because those areas are more flat and light hitting them isn't as noticeable as light hitting the top because its round.

You need a proper diagnosis of male pattern baldness. See a derm.
