Hi all,

I'm probably around a NW2 with good thickness everywhere but hairline is definitely taking a hike in the corners. If I take propecia daily and apply minoxidil religiously can I prolong the balding process for the foreseeable future, or am I doomed regardless because my hairloss has started so early? Is hairloss that occurs at younger ages usually more aggressive, and if so should I forgo finasteride and just start on dutasteride if I want to maintain what I currently have?

hey. if treatments work well you can keep your hair for who knows, 5-10-15 years or maybe even longer. I personally know a guy who has been taking finasteride for 20 years and maintaining.

Can you post pics of ur hair?

I can't but just take my word that there's receding at the temples, but that's it. Good density everywhere else. Norwood 2.

That doesn’t always mean your going to bald more. Some dermatologist don’t even consider nw2 balding. Some nice examples of nw2s that pull it off well Gabriel Matchat (Harvey Specter from suits), Ryan
reynolds and Philip Defranco. I’m not saying don’t start treatment just make sure 100% that you have male pattern baldness before jumping on treatment.

OP is only 20 though. I’m assuming these guys you mentioned are quite a bit older?

Yeah true but with Philip defranco you can go back to his old videos of when he was 21 and he has the same hair that he does now being 30. Not sure about the other 2 but defranco receded pretty young and kept it.

True he could be but during a live stream a fan asked and he said he never noticed it before. So basically the guy asked are you on treatment I have a similar hairline am I doomed. He responded with a joke and said nah maybe you balding. He could be on treatments but I don’t think so. His hairs really thick. I just think it’s common for men to recede to nw2 and stay there. Again I’m not telling OP to not think about treatment it’s just that it’s a horomone drug so he should be careful. I posted a pic of Philip defranco belowhe looks good to me. He has no thinning at all his temples are just a little high

this guy is rich as hell either way. can easily afford the best hairsystems/transplants if he ever wanted to.

I would normally agree but my father is bald and my brother is in his 30's and will be in a couple years. So I guess my follow up questions are
1. Can propecia maintain my hair for the foreseeable future and 2. Is 20 too young to start this medication? I worry about the mental effects and it stunting any development I have left. If my hairline was any further back though it would start to become an issue so it seems like getting on finasteride is the best thing to do.

Finesride will help you maintain your hair most likely might even grow some if your lucky. It works for most men. Now being 20 yeah you are on the young side but most people from what I have read don’t get side effects. That being said the guys who did get sides it has ruined some of them. The stories are pretty scary but I guess that’s the same with a lot of other medication. If I were you I would go talk to my family doctor and see what he or she thinks. Since I and others on this site have no medical expirence at all. Probably best to talk to your doctor before jumping on meds. You can ask them how many patients of their are on meds and how it’s wokrked out for them. If they refer you to a dermatologist research before hand about the kind of doctor they are. I went to one and she said I’m losing hair and to start Lazer and not propecia. After I went to a more respected doctor in my area and he said that’s all nonsense and propecia is the only thing that will work although he didn’t give me any since he said it was to early to tell for me.

Philip Defranco is a classic example of a mature hairline. He had that hairline for like 10 years.
