Is this a joke? I recently got my hair cut short and it was seeming a lot thinner than usual and then BOOM. This is 6months on Propecia. What is going on????? I am 19 this cant be happening to me... My hair is thin everywhere even the sides and i am constantly shedding... Below is a before 6months and after... Is it the shorter hair that is making me look like complete ****? Also what type of hairloss even is this :'(

It is not a joke, hair loss is serious business. What you have is called diffuse thinning? I would recommend you just try to ride it out and hope its just a shed.

But how did this happen so fast? I have been monitoring my hair for the past year and a half and only after starting propecia have i noticed a significant change... Does propecia even work for diffuse thinning? Could this be telogen effluvium or no chance?

Probably a shed. Effects of finasteride can take up to 12 months, sometimes MORE to be seen. 6 months is typically the minimum.

I had a WORSE shed in only 2-3 months. It's possible.

I pray that this is just a shed, but then again ive been on a constant shed for the past year, with only 2months of not shedding from months 3-5 of treatment. I hope that i am shedding rather than having a case of really aggressive male pattern baldness

On my phone this looked like you were mixed race with dreads. Diffuse looks bad here but it's early days. At least give it a year. U on minoxidil? I see a lot of diffusers using it as need it more.

I'm a receder, on finasteride 3 months, no shed myself. Maybe you shed the weak hairs.

Propecia is supposed to work very well for diffuse thinners. I didn't have much of diffuse thinning when I started finasteride, but now, after 4 years, my crown and vertex looks pretty bad when wet.

I agree bit of a stupid title, sorry about that. I was having one of those days where i get extremely depressed over my hairloss and find things to blame it on... I guess i need to accept i have really agressive male pattern baldness and in all honesty i doubt i will be able to save my hair

stay on finasteride or even look into the other DHT blocker, its more powerful, stay consistant with your treatments and cross your fingers, thats all u can do

Hi @centurie , I hope you are well. I’m in a similar boat to you at 10 months on finasteride. In fact my hair even looks like yours in this pic. What happened as you went on?

centurie,

how wet is your hair in these pics?

If you have naturally fine, dark hair, & it's wet, then (even without loss) you'll likely see the scalp.
Your hair would need to be like an otter's pelt for you not to.

Ooo what a bump of an old thread haha.

I’ve kept all my hair, it’s currently better than those photos. I added in minoxidil at the 12month mark and it gave me probs the best year of hair in my life.

I think propecia has pretty much stopped my hair loss so my advice is to stick it out, your hair may not improve from it but maintaining shows it’s working.

@Koval It was out the shower wet, but that’s how I’ve always taken my photos as it shows the thinning more.

@Alphalete It props was a shed, even now I go through periodic sheds where my hair gets thinner and it still scares the fak out of me haha.

Here’s a photo of my hair now, be it a dry haired photo.
