Hey guys i need help......please please..........ever since getting on Propecia, my hair has been very very oily and i've been breaking out bad. I've been attacking my acne problem pretty hard for the past month, and i'm seeing a little improvement , but my hair still gets really oily quickly after showering. Maybe within 3 hours it's oily again and looks thinner because of it.

So i've been shampooing at night before bed, and doing a small shampoo rinse during the day. twice a day isn't normal!!! Hairspray seems to help keep body after showering. ok questions:

blow drying - bad or good?

I use nizoral twice a week and shampoo with Nexxus Biotin shampoo. I heard Nizoral is supposed to help oily hair but it doesn't seem to help in my case. Any suggestions!!!

thanks alot guys.........i can't continue like this, but at the same time i don't want to stop taking propecia.

for the acne - use neutrogena bodyclear bodywash for acne on the body. also, get prescribed some minocin (anti-biotic, take it for a few months and all your acne should clear up, face or body, and you can drink while on this anti-biotic).

as for the oily hair i wouldnt shampoo it twice a day...your hair needs some of the natural oils that develop during the day and stripping it of those by washin it can damage hair. why not just rinse it with water one of the times instead of using shampoo. and get a shampoo that is specifically for oily hair...get a salon-style one, they usually do the task theyre specifically designed to do really well.

i get really oily hair too...

My hair was oily as a teen then it sorta stopped for a few years but when my hair started falling i noticed that my scalp was becoming very oily ad very sensitive aswell..i don't know if that's typical, but who knows..
So, i basically have to wash my hair every day (usually closing my eyes so i don't see the hair that is falling out hehe)...

i use nizoral and tgel on alternate days...

Try not to use any conditioner for a while ( that is if you do ) and see if that helps.

And blowdrying i doubt would be too much to be concerned about, might just add stress to your already sensitive scalp/hair, but i guess just stop it for a while and see how you go..

Good luck though.

and another thing....

depending on what type of acne you have...
i use ERYACNE GEL 2% (you have to get a prescription, and i don't know if its called something different in your country...i'm from Australia)
and that works quite well for the bigger redder type of mild cystic acne and is cheap considering how well it works..

and for blemishes (the small red zit marks) that don't seem to go away no matter what you do try
ELLA BACHE CREME INTEX NUMBER 2 ( you get it from those skin care places)

these both seem to work okay for me..

make sure you don't use soap to wash your face and use a toner after you wash your face if you want ...

just more crap for your regimen, but it helps me out when i break out.

Follow the regimen on http://www.acne.org/.

I've been on it for a month or so and my skin has never been clearer. I also have been on Propecia for 3 days now... probably too early, but I think it's helped clear my skin even more.

Good luck.

It will pass

Hey Bro,

I had the same problem, maybe not as bad, but it will pass once your body gets used to the medication. Everyones advice on this post is pretty good, make sure to do a sort of trial and error, see what works and stick with it. Keep up the fight!!!

Take care,
Tony

Just wash your hair more often and us an astringent on your face and both will go away with time.

wow thanks for all the great advice guys!!

ok i just read that using harsh shampoos strip the natural oils that hair needs which in turn causes the scalp to produce more oil to compensate. Is this true? My breakouts are only on my forehead which obviously means that my scalp is producing too much oil.

now Nizoral is known to strip the hair pretty good, but i don't like using conditioners. Since i started Nizoral and Propecia at the same time, do you think it might actually be the nizoral being too strong and my scalp reacting? What will happen if i just wash with Nizoral once a week instead of two or three?

i just bought Paul Mitchell shampoo two. Is this shampoo known for helpin oily hair? let me know......thanks!!

experiment a little bit - everyones hair is different. use nizoral only once a week and your regular shampoo at other times. give your hair a one day rest where you only use water to wash it too. if you find after 2 weeks your scalp is getting a bit too itchy/dry, use nizoral 2x a week, and so on.

It sounds like your body has upped your testosterone output because of the reduction in DHT. I read somewhere that it happens worse for some guys. On average you expereince a 15% increase in testosterone output on Procepia due to your body trying to find equilibrium for the DHT that is being blocked, well that's what I read.

It's almost like taking a little bit of anabolic steroids. If I were you, I'd hit the gym. :)
