Ok I have to admit even I'm considering Finasteride...

The excess oil production is likelly due to beta sisterols ability to flush cholestral out of the system. The only way it can do this through excreating it through the skin and bodilly waste. If its a problem you can just use nizoral to prevent it making your hair greasy.

Man serious I'm gonna end up with the cleanest veins and arteries EVER... lol

However it's worth being cautious because apparently it is indeed possible to have too LOW cholesterol. I'd consider that unlikely though as long as your dose isn't too high :)

I'll keep an eye on my hair's oil anyway, I think finasteride coupled with beta-sitosterol and everything else I'm taking should be unstoppable lol

Hey hoppi.

Check this thread out:

This guys story is very amazing.

I have been talking with him a bit and he has had great results on 1/4 pill, and is now on 1/6th pill.

I myself started on 1/2 pill. I had amazing results, but then the sides kicked in. My dick went numb and I had bad brain fog. I switched down to 1/4 pill and am now thinking of going with 1/6 pill. With 1/4 pill I received about the same results as 1/2, but much fewer sides(I want less sides still thats why I am cutting down to 1/6).

I think if you are using minoxidil, as well as a good shampoo, you can really achieve great results with minimal dosing....

HOWEVER...everyone is different so we cannot say that any results are typical. But trust me you will get sick of a numb dick and brain fog lol...

Nah man that sounds great =D rofl

Yeah I mean I think I will at least START on a lower dose - it will be easier on my wallet and my hormones! I mean if I'm cutting them into quarters then a one months supply lasts 4! Woot! :)

And yeah I think once I combine them with topical solutions, lower sebum and stronger follicles, I should be fine on 0.25-0.5. Hell I could even top it up with some beta-sitosterol if I got bored lol

Oh erm, I have a couple of little Qs. First of all, roughly, do we know how many people seem to experience sides with 0.5mg+? It seems to be a significant number, but then of course the people with them are more likely to speak out etc etc

I was also PETRIFIED of this: http://www.propeciasideeffects.com/

(just like I was scared of the tiny chance of beta-sitosterol meddling with my veins and arteries... man I'm a wuss lol)

Second question is - can anyone here compare finasteride's effectiveness with b-S? I mean that guy on baldtruth said he tried "natural remedies" yes, but there are just so, so many, and so many possible dosages. If he tried 375mg of beta-sitosterol a day and saw NO improvements then I would be a little surprised.

Thing is of course I know that worst case scenario if I can't get finasteride at some point in the future, I probably can fall back on a suitably large dose of b-S until I get some more (in case of emergencies!) because they both lower DHT. I just wanna give my hair the very best fighting chance for the future, and to be fair that does seem to be Finasteride...

I want to thank you for the link in the above post, I was thinking about starting on finasteride along with the minoxidil I already use , but theres no way i'm going to start it now

Aw dude but if you start on a low dose and stop the SECOND you get any worrying sides, I'm sure you'll be fine.

Those guys (certainly the main guy) may have used larger doses and remained on it for longer DESPITE experiencing significant sides. Which is just silly, IMO.

If you really are worried, then beta-sitosterol also lowers estrogen apparently and seems to have a more balanced and less hormonally risky effect, so maybe you could give that a blast instead of finasteride :)

The only risk category for beta-sitosterol is i BELIEVE those who are intolerant to plant sterols, but that is a small group. I might get myself checked for this though - it's worth exercising caution with beta-sitosterol too I think because of it's (usually positive) effects on the heart and circulatory system.

Yeah the side effects are a bummer, but I wasn't freaked out by them. And I stopped for 2 days after the sides and everything went back to normal.

However I would be very careful with this drug because everyone is different, and it is a risk to take it. But it also works like magic which is the allure.

Right well... I think I'm gonna do it. It's cheap, it's cheerful, I can start on a low dose, and it will probably be effective!

Then I'll back it up with a topical DHT-reducer (Nizoral), good shampoo and Coenzyme A to reduce sebum, etc etc (all in my regimen!).

male pattern baldness is not going to win this one! :)

oh, edit, I just noticed my regimen is such a mish-mash of different people's views and suggestions!

Diet and lifestyle was misterE, as well as Nizoral and cutting down on meat and dairy! CoA was squeegee. finasteride was... nearly everyone! lol Supplements was dpdr and some other people! and yeah etc etc! People like Bryan also really helped me, I asked for help from so many people lol

This forum is DEFINITELY the best place to come IMO for surviving male pattern baldness! What did people do before the net eh? :)

finasteride is near a flat dose, there is only a slight difference between 1mg and 0.25mg. 1mg reduced DHT 68% while 0.2 reduced 61%. 5mg finasteride reduced DHT by 69%. And if I remember correctly 0.05mg finasteride is about 50% reduction. So yeah, a little finasteride goes a long way.

Also, with Beta-S. I personally think it doesn't do jack. I was on a 360mg twice daily Beta-S supplement for a little more then half a year. Nothing. Same thing with Saw palmetto for a year before. So, just sharing my experience.

Here is a major problem with propecia. It costs 60 dollars a month for the actual legit stuff which the only thing any real doctor or dermatologist would ever prescribe to you if he values his license. That is a lot of money any way you look at it I mean that comes out to be 720 dollars a year for 5 years is 3600 dollars. Its possible you still might lose hair slowly even paying all that money. Not that great an option considering the amount of money unless you cut it into 1/4s to atleast make it somewhat cost effective. Im not personally rich so money is more important than hair because I have to eat, pay bills and such.

abcdefg, I just got my 5mg Fincar from United Pharmacies, I'll cut it to 8 and take about 0.5mg per day and it's really cheap. You should consider generic finasteride, much cheaper than Propecia.. Let's just hope for a new topical anti-adrogen in the near future.

I dont personally trust those online pharmacies especially any of them that do not require actual doctor prescriptions. Thats really the thing stopping me from doing that and technically thats not really legal unless you are prescribed it.

I was worried too about the side effects of Finasteride before I started taking it. For the first few months I actually believed I was experiencing some minor sides too: head-fog, decreased sex drive and ability, etc. But I came to realize they were all head-games. When you know the symptons and you're worried about them, it's easy for you to exaggerate little things and imagine that you're coming down with some of them.

You hear a lot about finasteride sides on this forum because the people that post about them are here because they experienced the sides. That doesn't mean the side-effects are common. In fact they're extremely rare. And it's even more rare that if you stop you'll be left with permanent damage.
