OMG!!! Why Today!?

Could someone please give me advice on this. It is one day where I woke up happy, and I find with just a simple tug (not even a tug really) so many hairs come out.

My hair just feels really greasy this morning, I washed it a couple of days a go, but it actually feel really oily and greasy and I have dry hair. I don't know what i'm doing wrong. I've only just turned 17.. and I'm having a massive shed. It never feels like this.

I'm on flaxseed oil supplements (1000mg) twice day
2 Saw Palmetto twice a day
Minoxidil, (I haven't been on it for a while, but I went back on it today)
Emu Oil
Nizoral Shampoo 3 times a week.
I also have a very helthy diet, high fibre and protein diet. No sugar except in green tea.

basically I'm trying everything, and I dont earn to much money. It is like my male pattern baldness is so agressive at this stage. My granddad was around NW7 late twenties, and I'm really panicking. The Doctor always tells me they is NOTHING to stop Hair Loss (why would they say that??), they even tell me my hair isn't thinning, but it is blaintly obvious.

Somone help, I get the best advice from this forum. It will help so much if i get advice.

Read the 112 comments about flaxseed oils supposed effect on hair loss on this page, 99% of it is extremely negative, so 1 thing I'd say, is get off that stuff now!

http://www.baldingblog.com/2006/04/14/flax-seed-oil-and-hair-loss/

Also, you're not on any DHT inhibitors that are potent enough really.. although you are still young so I wouldn't advise it until you hit 19/20 personally.

The minoxidil.. you CAN'T stop and start this stuff, you WILL shed, it's a commitment there, you mustn't start this stuff if you won't keep with it, take into mind that the shedding you get after stopping minoxidil can leave your hair temporarily worse than it was beforehand.

And with the hair washing.. you realise a lot of the hair thats shedding comes out when you shower as it applies pressure obviously.. if I don't wash my hair for a few days it seems to be coming out more, but it's just because I haven't showered, if I do a 'tug test' or whatever after a shower I rarely get any hairs. Also the oils in your scalp will build up until they're washed, try to wash every other day or whatever is best for you.

What other supplement along side Saw Palmetto is best to take? I will quit the Flaxseed Oil, and try and find a replacement. I guess I'll have to keep on minoxidil..

There must be something else I can do. I really want a blood test from my doctor, but they just tell me I am worrying. What do they know!!?? One doctor even said that it is very unlikely to go bald at a young age and he said you usually start thinning hair at 30. I have been to the same surgery 4 times and they all say the same =[

Wonderful advice! Gee whiz, we could all have full heads of hair if we'd just stop pulling out our hair because everyone knows if you don't pull your hair it won't fall out!

Not saying that, just wondering why people who think they're losing hair are pulling it.

Doesn't Trichotillomania cause permanent hair loss as the follicle is damaged after repeated removal?

You need to get on a good dht blocker like finasteride or dutasteride. Slow down dht and your hair will last much much longer. Also most doctors aren't up to date on the latest cutting edge treatments for hair. It's like that joke, what do you call the medical student who graduated at the bottom of his class..................doctor

Pretty much that order.

Doctors in the U.S. practice evidence-based medicine at the specialty level. Going to your family physician or Internist and asking them to help you with you hair loss is not what they do. That's for a Dermatologist. Sorry to say it, but the majority of primary care physicians focus on current literature with regards to diagnosing life-threatening illness and maintaining the health of the chronically ill patient. male pattern baldness doesn't fall under either of those.

Is this also true with Flax Seed grounds? I have been taking them for years. I read in a Mens Health article it helps maintain hair! I also take fish oil at the same time at breakfast.

See this thread for more info on flax seed, and just because Dr Rassman's said something, it doesn't mean it's automatically true. Hell, the guys not even a top hair transplant Doctor.

I was thinking more about the comments on the thread, I didn't actually read the Dr's input ^_^. Do a google on flax oil + hairloss and you'll find much of the same.

Sorry to hear you're going through this so young dude. It must be hell, but I wouldn't do anything too drastic. You've just turned 17, and at your age jumping on propecia is not advisable. I wouldn't even be on saw palmetto if I were you. It's not advisable to block DHT when you're still growing, and trying a more "mild" DHT inhibitor isn't going to help matters all that much.

Your best hope for the next 2-3 years is a topical regimen. Minoxidil obviously, but possibly a topical anti-androgen such as spironolactone or fluridil, or even the Zix products.

Another avenue to look at is low-level laser therapy. Some folks swear by the laser helmet. It'll cost you a bit to make or buy one, but it could help, and is probably worth looking into.

Besides that you're doing everything that you can at the moment. Tugging at your hair might make you think the process is faster than it is, so just make sure you don't make any rash decisions regarding treatments.
