Hey guys,

Just hoping for some advice. Been on finasteride 1.25mg coming up on 6 months. Can't say a lots changed since I've started. Don't think its gotten worse. I've uploaded some pics. Im only thinning like 1cm deep from the front of my hairline to my temples.

Is it time to get on minoxidil? Or should I wait until the 1 year mark and see where I'm at?

Would using 5% minoxidil once a day help? Its not too bad. Just a few drops here and there once a day?

Im kind of paranoid that if I use it it will make me shed where im already thinning and i'l look ridiculous for a few months.

its not worth it imo, your hair looks fine and you don't have potential for much regrowth.

Hey thanks for your response.

Can I ask why u think there isn't much potential for re growth? Even if there is limited potential isn't it worth a try?

I can't really tell from your pictures if it would help you or not. I would need a full face frontal to judge. I have a receding hairline and minoxidil helped it some. I can judge based off my own experiences. But I can't really tell where your hairline is from your pictures.

Hey Kpat, thanks for your reply.Really appreciate any help I can get. I will take some pictures tonight and try and show you. I thinks its called diffuse thinning. Like where its starting to thin and you can see a bit of scalp. I've been on finasteride for almost 6 months and just trying to gauge whether I should wait until the 1 yr mark before throwing minoxidil into the regime. I can't say a lot has changed since I started finasteride. Some days I think its working others not so much.

Really starting to get down about it as I cant wear my hair as I would like and used to.

Just want it to thicken up a bit so I dont find it so noticeable. Its 2014! wheres the cure!?

Hey so here's a pic of the hairline...front on and the temple. Unsure if minoxidil would help...There's so much conflicting anecdotal evidence.
advice is appreciated

Hey Team,

Still hoping I can get some feedback from the knowledgeable lot here. Should minoxidil be thrown in the mix? Or should I wait? Or should I just not bother and stick with finasteride?
Either way I'll stick with finasteride but am wanting to save the hairline as much as possible or atleast give me the best chance of saving it.

Thanks guys

Its very clear to me the only reason to use finasteride, minoxidil, and Nizoral is to maintain and improve the hairs you have. i have heard around that minoxidil only works for about 6 years. IF you find out that is not true.......then just get on everything now. You are losing your hair from looking at the second set of pictures. Not so bad but why wait.

ther isn't much potential for regrowth because you already have virtually have all your hair you cant regrow when there is nothing really to regrow besides half a cm of hairline....

So it would be futile attempting to apply minoxidil just to where I am thinning at the front? I was hoping I might see some better results from the finasteride. Just under 6 months into it so perhaps I should give it some more time. It's hair depressing as I like to wear my hair up at the front and with the thinning I can't really do that anymore.

So there's no point in attempting to re grow some of what I've lost? I thought the earlier you took action the better. So you're saying I should wait for it to get worse before I take action with minoxidil?

minoxidil will not slow down hairloss, it will regrow miniaturized into terminal hair. You have very little miniaturized hair, either all terminal or all dead hairs. So therefore I don't see much usefulness for minoxidil

Plus it will, AT SOME POINT, completely rape your skin. And no, I'm not just saying this because I had a horrible reaction.

It will rape my skin? Surely this isn't something that happens to everyone. U had a reaction. Doesn't mean I will. Or everyone will.

I'm on finasteride to keep what I got and was just thinking that minoxidil might help me thicken up what areas are thinning. Was looking for people to suggest whether or not I am a good candidate but from the response I've got it goes against a lot of what I've read on this forum. I have read that diffuse thinners are best for re growth as there is greater chance follicles aren't dead.

I've also had the thought of testing a patch with the foam to see how I respond. Just one temple maybe for 3-6 months and see how I go. Has anyone done this or heard of anyone doing this before?

Hey zzzzz.
I'm on the finasteride to slow down the hair loss. Got that covered.

Even if I have little miniaturized hair wouldn't it still worth be giving it a go? Is there any reason not to try it? I struggle to see how u can tell I have all terminal and dead hairs from a iPhone photo?

So nobody thinks I would gain anything from minoxidil?
