Oral Spironolactone

I've actually seen people mentioned taking it on the forum before, but I didn't pay attention. Now that I've done a bit of research, it seems like another possible treatment of male pattern hair loss. I'm surprised so few topics about this drug.

Unlike finasteride/dutasteride, Spironolactone blocks Androgen receptor and androgen production, so spironolactone is different from finasteride/dutasteride?

Does it give shedding like starting treatment of finasteride/dutasteride? Has anyone tried it with good results?

Also, is it safe to take it long term like 10+ years? And taking it along with finasteride?

I use it myself as part of my HRT (hormone replacement therapy) for transitioning from male to female. Please listen when I tell you it's not something you want to take unless you are also transgender like me - it will feminize you. You will develop smooth skin like a girl, you'll get boobs, your libido will be nonexistent, you will likely have very severe erectile dysfunction, you may have problems with fertility, you will lose muscle, you might feminize in other ways, etc. Not to mention it's a diuretic, so you'll be pissing about every 30 minutes on the freaking clock (super annoying). It also requires regular blood tests or you might die since it is a potassium sparing diuretic.

Basically if you're a cis guy, stay away from oral spironolactone. Period.

Do not take oral Spironolactone, unless if you're transgender or don't care about feminizing effects. Taking Dutasteride or Finasteride is already sufficient at treating Male Pattern Baldness.

Earlier this year, I did take 100 mg of oral Spironolactone for roughly three weeks, I stopped when I noticed Dutasteride is already so strong at maintaining my hair. I didn't get any side effects from the oral Spironolactone at least from what I felt during that period of time, though I'm glad that I stopped the drug because who knows what it would have done to me eventually.

Just curious, when you were a male, were you suffering from Male pattern baldness? Are you also on finasteride/dutasteride currently? Does oral spironolactone stop your male pattern baldness?

Yes I was a NW5 before I started HRT/finasteride/minoxidil (NW1.5/2 now).

Currently I am on finasteride yes, but I plan to move up to dutasteride next time I see my HRT doctor since a generic just became available.

Keep in mind I'm on more than just oral spironolactone, but yes my male pattern baldness has not only stopped - it's reversing.
