You guys seriously believe that height has anything to do with hairloss? Lmao.

After researchers in Germany studied the genetic makeup of about 11,000 men with premature balding and 12,000 men with full heads of hair, they discovered 63 alterations in DNA that can raise your risk of baldness.

In particular, they found that four locations on DNA linked shorter body height to an increased risk of male pattern baldness.

I actually think men who have gynécomastie from childhood through puberty and lasting till adult hood are the least likely to go bald. From what I see in everyday life this is the biggest trait that non balders share.

Yup that's me. Although I'm starting to thin now in my 50s. And my chest is getting better. Coincidence ?

OP I think its ridiculous you are proposing physical characteristics such as hip/shoulder ratio as having strong correlations to baldness, while immediately dismissing the one physical characteristic that could actually be argued to be correlated to baldness: excessive body hair. You anecdotally mention your uncles not fitting this pattern, but I would argue the association between the two is pretty common (https://www.hairlosscure2020.com/why-do-men-with-excessive-body-hair-bald-much-more-frequently/).

I'm not saying causation, but scientifically it makes sense. DHT (not testosterone) promotes body hair; this same hormone, in addition to androgen receptor sensitivity is the only well studied cause of androgenic alopecia in men.

so yeah, I'm not saying there is an ideal physical trait that correlates to susceptibility for baldness, BUT IF THERE IS ONE, it is excessive body hair.

@Alphalete
I remember reading somewhere that Mediterranean and middle eastern nations have some of the highest incidence numbers for baldness. So if Arabs are “hairy as fu*k” idk that kind of supports the premise that increased body hair correlates to increased incidence in male pattern baldness.

Really? that's interesting. most arabs I know have very thick hair tbh. Barely any is receding

Yeah I forgot the survey done. I think parts of the Balkans were the worst.

It’s also interesting to note, but the group of people who are born without the type 2 alpha 5-reductase isoenzyme in the Dominican Republic, because they don’t generate DHT, don’t develop baldness, but also don’t get prominent male secondary sexual characteristics like body or facial hair.

Also Asian people generally have the least amount of body/facial hair. Their nations also have some of the lowest incidence rates for baldness.

I’m sure it’s more complicated than baldness being attributed to just DHT and sensitivity of androgen receptors, but all scientific data we have so far suggests it’s a big part. And because DHT directly impacts secondary sexual characteristics like body/facial hair, it makes sense that those traits COULD be a potential harbinger for future hairloss problems

Norwood 3. No arm hair. No chest hair. Normal leg hair. Hair colour changed from really blond to darker blond after puberty.

I live in an area with lots of Chinese. Balding hits them just as hard in mid life. The women seem to thin as much as the men with age.
