Pimples, bumps on scalp?

I am thinking this is almost certainly a correlation but I have had acne/pimples on my scalp as far back as I remember when puberty hit. Of course, I didn't really care as my once thick hair covered it and that was that. But at most it seemed I would have one every blue moon (not often). Nowadays as my hair feels thinner and I'm always running my hands through it, I'm noticing a good 3-4 pimples there at a time, PARTICULARLY in my temporal regions where my loss is strongest.

I am thinking its more likely that touching scalp more often + oilier hair + not caring enough to notice before = pimples on scalp (or just now really taking notice)

Just wondering if anyone else has this problem, and how they deal with it? Also, whether it has any real relation to male pattern baldness?

I realized that if I was to shave, buzz, or do anything of the sort, I would probably have to deal with noticeable pimples and maybe even scars as well, so add that to the pool of troubles.

I'd visit a derm for their opinion. Preferably one specializing in hair loss.

or you could try using specific dandruff shampoos such as salicylic acid that cuts away sebum and exfoliates skin or the standard nizoral most people use as part of the big 3

I used to have this problem during puberty. It went away though, you may have high test or a lot of androgen receptors on your scalp, or you might just be prone to acne there. Believe it or not, throughout puberty I don't recall getting a single pimple (Except for black heads) on my face, yet the rest of my body had them. Some of us just get acne in certain spots.

I'd try a shampoo with salyictic acid (spelling?).

I had it pimples/red bumps along my hairline and on the scalp within the areas I was applying minoxidil. Nothing seemed to help it, so eventually just stopped and it went away.

I have something similar

I am considering going on very low dose Accutane if I can't fix it thru topicals. You should see a derm who specializes in scalp/alopecia. Do you have facial acne? What topicals are you using on your hair/scalp?
