Plan To Tackle Hair Loss - What Are Your Thoughts?

Hi all,

I am new to the forum and am writing to share with you my plan for tackling hair loss and request your advice/views. I am a 29 yo male and I have been suffering from hair loss for a few years.

Hair was never one of my strengths, I think that my density has always been average and my hair is quite thin. However, thinning was very minimal till a couple of years back, so it was unnoticeable in reality. In the last couple of years things changed: I have lost a substantial amount of hair on the top of my head - see pics attached. What may be important to mention is that I am losing hair from a broad area, however I am not 'bald' anywhere yet, i.e. my hairline has not moved, my crown is not worse than other parts. Looking at Norwood types, it seems to me that, when the loss gets worse, it may fit with the 5 type.

I have been on Minoxidil for a while, although started applying it consistently only a few months ago. I think it helps, as it has stopped shedding lately, but I know it will not be able to produce the improvement I am looking for without surgery. Also, let me point out that I am negative to taking propecia - after doing some research I recognise that it helps, however I am not willing to risk experiencing the side effects.

So here is the plan: looking to book a FUE for around 2000 grafts. I hope that this will cover quite well for a few years, while it will leave a good amount of extra hair in the donor area for future procedures, if required. Hopefully, in a few years hair cloning will also be available, which could be a game changer! In terms of my budget, I am looking at around 2 euro per graft that would translate to £4,000. If I find someone exceptional, I may consider to go up to 15% more, but I don't see the point in paying more.

Now to the point: while I am based in London, I am originally from Greece. I reached out to my network to see whether there are any good doctors / clinics over there and a few friends, who are doctors, pointed me to DHI. Their price is very reasonable and a couple of people who tried them were pleased with the result. However, I have not been able to find a lot of feedback online on them and looking for more info before making a decision.

If I don't go with DHI, I am thinking to make contact with the following, who have gathered a lot of positive comments in various forums:
Erdogan, Rahal, Demirsoy, *********, Bhatti, ********, Lorenzo, Lupanzula, Hasson & Wong

Could you please advise:
1/ do you have any info on DHI or other Greek clinics / doctors you would suggest?
2/ given the info I have provided above (procedure, no of grafts, budget etc.), who would you suggest from the above list?
3/ if you were in my shoes, would you do anything differently and, if yes, why?

Any advice will be much appreciated!

Kind regards,
Andy

Andag - If you’re in the UK doesn’t the NHS have people who can provide this treatment or provide recommendations to you?

Nancy - In short, and treat this advice lightly as I suggest you do more research:

Nizoral Shampoo - An easy treatment option with nothing to speak of in side effects should be the first port of call.

Minoxidil - Regrowth formula - helps stimulate hair growth.

Propecia - This is the big one in truth that more than any other will arrest and possibly reverse hair loss but comes with some additional sides that you should review as a pair carefully. With that said, it’s probably mandatory if he’s in his 30’s or upwards as the above two while they help, won’t really work well without Propecia.

Man you are almost completely bald on top and your donor is not exactly the thickest I have ever seen. I would consider Propecia if I were you. Sides are relatively rare, around 2-5% and overblown by the internet and in the vast majority of cases they stop upon the cessation of finasteride. And tbh most hair transplant surgeons won't operate on someone with your level of baldness without using finasteride unless you are planning a very conservative restoration.

Realistically, hair cloning and revolutionary treatments are probably over 5 years away. Nothing is even in stage 3 trials. Finasteride(propecia) had known hairloss benefits for about 15 years before it was approved and available. If there was something similar coming within ten years we would have probably heard about it.

You are young enough that hair transplants probably won't be enough to keep a full head of hair, donor is eventually limited.

Finasteride is by far more effective than anything else approved for hairloss. By not considering it your chances of maintaining your hair probably drop 80% or more. I don't think your plan is a viable long term solution IMO

Your only real option is finasteride or its stronger alternative dutasteride. Both of these are medications that work by blocking the production of DHT, the hormone that is responsible for male pattern baldness. These medications can be expected to stop any further hair loss, and will have a good chance of additionally giving some regrowth.

You could also add topical minoxidil and Nizoral shampoo. These are likely to help a little, but by far your most important weapon will be the finasteride or dutasteride.

Hi,
if he is losing a few month ago than i suggest you that please first of all you apply home made matterial as coconut milk for a month . Coconut milk is very benefit for hair so you take a cup of coconut milk that apply it as per process given below;-
What You Need To Do

1. Apply coconut milk to your scalp using a hair dye brush.

2. Then cover your head with a towel and leave it on for about 20 minutes. You can ideally prepare coconut milk at home by grinding the grated coconut and squeezing its milk.

3. After that, remove the towel and rinse your hair with cold water.

it will be doing for a month if you like this process than carry on.

if any other suggestion please reply on the same.

thank you for your Suggestion but I want to grow out his hair fast.

Sure Nancy and I would help you get best results as soon as possible. But you need to know if you are able to fly to India, new Delhi. If you are able to then you have all the chances that your husband will have full head hair. Obviously I need to see the pics of the bald area first.

Hope to hear from you soon.
@Admin @Roberto_72 can u guys ban this clown?

The effectiveness of coconut milk as a hair loss treatment is about on par with the ingenious idea that the Romans invented of smearing topical chicken dung all over their balding scalps. Need I say, the Romans continued to lose their hair.

Joking aside, the first thing you should do is find out for sure that your husband's hair loss is in fact male pattern baldness rather than some other form of hair loss. Are you able to post some pictures of his hair loss on here? If he does have male pattern baldness, he should treat it using the products I mentioned in my above post (finasteride/dutasteride, minoxidil, and Nizoral shampoo).

Thank you all for your contribution. I have decided to start using Nizoral, continue using Minoxidil more consistently and contact a few good surgeons to enquire about a 2000 - 3000 FUE. Let's see!

Make sure its male pattern baldness? If your a male over 30 what the hell else could it even be? I mean its like 98 percent chance its male pattern baldness. I wouldnt even bother because its so unlikely to be anything else.

I think you should also use finasteride (or dutasteride). This is by far your most powerful option. Your long-term success is likely to be very limited if you choose not to use finasteride.

I was just wanting to make sure. The lady gave no details about her husband's hair loss, and there are many different types of hair loss. Chances are he probably has male pattern baldness, but it is still best to have it clarified.
