Hey guys,

Been worrying off and on about hair loss for about a year now, fathers side has very strong hair but moms side (father and brother) were both NW4 by the time they were 40. Father had a mature hairline until mid 50s, now he’s probably between a Norwood 2 and 3, same with his father and brother. I have been measuring my hairline for the past 6 months and haven’t noticed any recession but I do realize I have already lost some hair. Wondering what you guys think of my hairline right now, I’m 23 and hoping I will have a decent head of hair throughout my thirties. Does it look like male pattern baldness or possibly a mature hairline? If so how bad do you think it is? The pictures are at different lengths but I think you can still make a conclusion based on them.

Thanks!

Also I should say that I’m worried mainly about my right temple, could be the way my hair parts but sometimes I think it looks a little thinner there

Personally I think it looks fine I’d of been happy with your hairline. Is image one how your hair appears when you grow it out? I note you wear the top very short.

Yes the first picture is about a month after the other 3 so that is about what it looks like when I’m not buzzing it down to a #2

Thats a good hairline. Can still pull off all styles. You have no cause for concern currently, just keep an eye on it.

After my hair grew out I noticed it’s a little thinner on the right side, I know it’s minor but because I’m still pretty young and I already have signs I’m wondering if I should get on anything.

The thought of going on Propecia definitely scares me after reading some of the posts on this forum, but I’m getting anxiety about losing my hair. Currently all I do is take a multi vitamin for hair called hair force and biotin, but I understand that won’t do much.

Any advice is appreciated.

Propecia is not a scary drug, Infact its quite a weak drug. The scare mongering is not justified and that's a shame because it steers people away who would have otherwise tried it. Side effects are rare and are not permanent, if you believe that you will believe anything!
Also you don't have any hair loss, so you don't need to go on propecia.

Thanks for that. Just going to add a few pictures to make it a little more obvious by combing my hair differently. If I knew it would be a slow gradual process I would let nature take its course but it seems like a gamble. I’ve seen you around this forum a lot so I’m interested in your opinion. If you had some doubts about Propecia and were in my situation, would you hold off and see how things progress or try it to see if you had sides?

Thanks again @AnxiousAndy

Hmm checking these photos i do see some temple thinning.. Some recession which is what it looks like your thinning will develop into is normal for males especially in their 20s. Even without that bit of thinning hair you would be Norwood 1.5 which most here wouldn't consider male pattern baldness. What I would do in your situation is wait it out, your thinning could stop naturally. This is more common that you might think, look at Jack Nicholson for example. I would only recommend propecia/ finasteride if you are approaching Norwood 2. That's really when it could be said to be male pattern baldness. For now I would use biotin and multi vitimins to help keep your hair healthy. Don't stress about it, you have a whole bag of treatments to try if the time ever comes :)

Imo, that is simply a maturing hairline. Very few men keep a juvenile (rainbow shaped) hairline without any opening. I would not consider this to be male pattern baldness.

Keep an eye on it and take pictures every three months. If you notice big changes, then consider finasteride. For now, however, you're fine.
